The comment/discussion came up elsewhere, and it just so happens that I just shared my story with the FDA today... If you are familiar with ecigs I urge you to consider doing the same at:

Regulations.gov

If you are unfamiliar with electronic cigarettes, here's my story:

From 1995 until the year 2010 I was a steady pack and a half a day smoker. From 2007 to 2010 I made several attempts to quit using various techniques, nothing worked! I missed having that smoke in my hand and I was hopelessly addicted to nicotine.

The times that I was briefly able to "quit" I was a ticking time bomb, so to speak.. Two or three weeks of torturing my family and friends with my poor attitude, constantly craving that thing in my hand, in my lips, that's all it would take and the wife would literally beg me to smoke a cig and chill out. It angers me even now, years later, to remember being so drawn to something so useless! How much obnoxiousness (and disgusting-ness) did I put my family through, and for what?

Then I found e-cigs! I had to order them from overseas at first, but then I found vapor4life and was able to get them "locally". I picked up an ecig and never looked back! Quite literally, there were 7 Camel Lights left in the pack when my ecig arrived.. That was 2/2/10. I found those 7 smokes months later and had zero problem with discarding them!

Using the option of a lower dose of nicotine I was able to stage myself down slowly to an ecig with no nicotine! That was 2/2/11
It was super easy too, with pretty much zero side effects! And with several flavors to chose from and an assortment of vaporizers that no longer resembled a cigarette (once I was comfortable, step by step) I was easily able (sans nicotine) to memtally separate this process from actual cigarettes as well as to separate the nicotine addiction from the "hand to mouth" addiction and tackle them both!

By 2/2/12 I had walked away from the ecig altogether, and I have never been more proud of myself.

I am also a E-cigarette user. I started 7 months ago and was a 10+ year smoker before the e-cigarette.The last three years of smoking cigarettes it was a pack a day. I have also decreased my dosage of nicotine to 6 milligrams.

I feel 100% better. If any one is considering a healthier alternative from smoking, I can personally vouch that this has worked for me, friends, and family. Just like any great detail products there is great E-cigarette devices. Don't be fooled by the cheap one at your local 7-11 or liquor stores. Go to a dedicated E-cigarette retailer. There are plenty around the States.

Here is my analogy, most of do no go to your local Pep Boys to buy a Sealant, Wax, or Compound. We come here. Same goes with the E-cig Industry.

I am not trying to sell a product here at all. I just would like to see more smokers and try this alternative and give it a good shot. IMHO, it works.

First of all... CONGRATS!!!
I posted this thread one year ago when I was seeking info: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/off-topic/45774-any-vapers.html

Started at 24 mg. with an EGo T. Down to 12 mg now and am toying with 6mg. on a pair of Twists. Never bought into the MOD's or high $$$ equipment. Nicotine free in '13...mid year is my goal.

E-Cig forum is the place to start.

Non smoking dedicated dripper.

Thank you for both for your posts, sorry I didn't see the other e-cig thread, I would have piggy backed it...

It was posted a year before you joined this forum. Didn't get any posts. I was in search mode since I couldn't find any vape shops in metro DC. There were other vapers on shoeless's quit smoking thread.

My local B&M (VapeXcape) had the link on its Facebook page earlier this month and I submitted my two cents after seeing the same link on ECF. I also have my 0 nic on hand steeping. Awaiting the day.

Thanks for posting your experience on this forum. Just glad to know that there are others that have walked the path that I'm on now that are still spreading the message.

Happy trails...

Congrats!!! Mannnnnn I just cant imagine something having ahold of me that costed that much $. Along with all the other things it does bad to your body. Good for you.

Quite the letter, Mr. Fishincricket. Congrats to you, sir. I can only hope they truly comprehend the message, and see beyond politics & profit.

I'm an ex-smoker myself. Started way back in junior high. You know, trying to be cool and all that. Idiot. I've decided to quit cold turkey after finding out that the wife and I are about to become parents. While I've managed to be civil around others, physically I wasn't doing so well. I've experienced panic attack like symptoms almost immediately; dizzy spells, tunnel vision, and shortness of breath. Fortunately it didn't last long. Less than 6 months later I was back to normal, and feeling better than ever. It's been 22 yrs since my last cigarette. I'm now doing the same with alcohol. 30 days and counting... :)

Espyone, Vegas Transplant, and others that are considering or on the same path - I wish you all success kicking this habit.

Congrats on 86'ing the alcohol.

Thanks!

But I do think that I'll order the SmokeTech Telescope in the next 2 days or so.
Might as well go out in style.

I never understand the backlash against e-cigs. I didn't even know they were a path to quitting nicotine althogther (learned that in this thread), but even if you never kick nicotine, it's a lot healthier for you than smoking, no second-hand smoke to irritate others, no fire hazard, etc. Seems like a win-win for everyone.

Thank you kindly. I must say, it's a whole lot easier than kicking nicotine. This, from a guy who went through 1.5 liter of vodka every 3 day for almost a decade. The only positive thing I could say is that I was a "friendly drunk". I either tell stupid jokes, reenact movie scenes, or sing really badly.

Thanks!

I have no idea what a SmokeTech is.

*googled*

Oh...

I have two living grandpa's. One is 82, the other getting ready to turn 90. One used to smoke and I could not imagine seeing him with a cigarette. The other grandpa just got out of the hospital a few weeks back and he's smoked since he was 14. He is having breathing issues at this stage in life, but cannot kick the habit. I'd love for him to try e-cig's. How much are they and where is the best place for information?

Also, a close friend and mentor just past away. He had just celebrated 20 years of being sober. Back then when he was drinking heavily he drank two 5ths of whiskey a day...confirmed by his loving wife who died 8 months before my friend passed. She took him in, kicked his butt to line him out on more than one occasion, talked him into marrying her and they both lived to love until the end.

Garry (72), I love you for everything you ever did for me...things that seperate men from boys...laying your job on the line for me and my name and standing for truth when no one else had the guts to stand by me. Stand by me you did, my man...all the way to the end. I am forever greatful to you. Rest in peace Veteran. Garry was a true leader, teacher, AA mentor, and a real American hero and patriot, and one of the best friends I ever had. I hope to greet you on the other side my friend.

If my friend Garry could kick cig's and alcohol the way that he did, anyone can do it if they set there mind to it. He told me once that he drank away the equivalent of two retirements for some people. Unfortunately, there are some like my own grandpa who don't have the will power, or perhaps the "want to", to kick the habit, even after seeing my grandma suffocate to death.

Habits like this are bad and almost seem to have a death grip on people.

I lost my ego-c twist and I caved. Back to a pack a day almost.

I need to order another this week. Where does everyone get their juice and cartomizers from?

Hoytman, there are several brands and types, but I settled on Vapor4Life and had no issues.. I quit altogether a while back and it looks like the landscape (products, features, etc) has changed a bit...

Myfreedomsmokes.com

I use an Ego and ordered an ecab starter kit last night. I had a volcano (same as blu cigs) and they don't even compare to the joytech products. Prefilled cartridges get expensive. Buy something that you can fill with juice. It's a lot cheaper to use and an overall better experience IMO.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to post here or send me a PM.

I am extremely interested in this product. Which strength did you start off with? Did you step down every 2 weeks or 4 weeks? I am ready to make this purchase but I am hoping for some guidelines and insights.

I know two people at work that are trying this and they seem to be doing very well. I used the nicotine patch for 10 days and managed to quit dipping copenhagen which I had used for the past 34 years. One of the people I work with also quit with the patch but went the entire 6 weeks, he had been smoking for 35 years. I wish I knew about this years ago because it is so much easier than quitting cold turkey and you are not a total ahole to everyone when you are trying to quit. I've got 4 months and there is no way I am going to start back up just because it is difficult even if you do have help.

I started off at the 24 mg dosage, I didn't set any specific time frames but I'd say it was a goo three months before I decided to "step down" and, at the time, 12mg was the next step.

Turns out that wasn't enough nicotine! Not to worry though, I found out that the cartomizers (the cartridge that connects to the battery, it both contains the atomizer element and holds the "juice") were refillable and I also found a company that would hand mix the juice and nicotine and had great flavors.. So they hooked me up with a bottle of 24mg and a big bottle of 0mg to cut with...

As you can guess, it didn't take me long to realize that the nicotine was the "culprit" for my cravings. So I simply started the process of cutting it further and further back until the "nic" was all gone.

I still puffed on the zero MG ecig until I ran out of "juice", then I just set it down.. At that point it was easy cause there was really no addiction, just a silly and pointless habit! lol

By comparison though, I have a friend who started at the same time as me and has never cut back on the nicotine at all.. He's saved a ton of money, he's healthier and he smells better.. So now he's got a girlfriend!

Things to avoid:
1. go to the ecig forums and study up on the latest.. Even my info is over a year old and may not be accurate.

2. Tinkering. It'll be difficult, but avoid ordering 20 different flavors in 10 different strengths, it burns money.

3. Remember, your brain will be fooled but your body will not. You will most likely experience physical side effects, like withdrawals but minimal in comparison.
For example:
Acne. For the first three months I had acne flare ups like I was a teenager again! lol
or when the guys in the office would huddle up for a smoke outside, suddenly the office would feel very cold and I'd simply have to go get some fresh air.

But that's the worst stuff I can remember, and that stuff only lasted a few weeks.

One thing that never happened.. I never craved a cigarette once it was apparent that I could get the nicotine another way. Not once. lol

Anyway, I'm rambling again. Feel free to pick my brain all you like though!
