Hello,

I finally got a car that I want to baby to the end so I started looking into detailing a car. This is my 5th car in my life and a one that I would like to keep for a while. I am pretty anal about mechancal maintenance, and about cleaning my car but up to now just a regular hand wash was good enough. Recently I started reading about detailing and polishers, and waxes and so on. This is a lot of stuff to digest. Just curiouls what would you guys recommend for a 8 month old 2006 Jetta. It is platinium gray, and it has light swirls, and light surface scratches. I has a full set of Mothers wax-cleaner, glaze/sealent, and wax. I believe they call it a 3 step process. I am looking for the actual polisher (Portec Cable?) and the pads. Any recommendations?

Porter Cable is a highly recommended tool here. Edge pad system is the way to go. I dont think anyone will disagree with me on that. And XMT swirl removers is something I recommend. 3M stuff works well also, and is attainable at Pepboys, carquest. etc. Other thing you might want to consider are clay bars, grit guard, micro fiber towels. Keep reading this site, lots of info. I'm still learning myself.

Get the portercable/Edge bundle from AG, I love it. You could prob get away with XMT 360 for polish/sealant. I personaly use the Optimum lin of Polishes.

Wash, Duragloss #901 or Poorboy's SS&S.
Clay Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay
Polish XMT 360
Wax or sealant any of these. They are the best in IMO
WAX
Pinnacle Signature Series II Carnauba Paste Wax
Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax
Pinnacle Liquid Souveran Wax
DP MaxWax

Sealants
Duragloss #101 and #105
Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant

Thank you everyone for all the recommendations. I will be placing my order very soon.

I would have to agree with Killr here. I found that it was a great starter kit for me and I was happy that I purchased it.
