I recently got a bottle of Carpro Essence and was wondering how to 'prep' a brand new foam pad. I know for MF pads, you have to prime the entire surface but what about a brand new foam polishing pad? I've see people do the X, the whole face priming, no pad conditioner etc etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

*Also first post so sorry if this is wrong section. Thanks in advance

I would prime the whole pad and then use 2-3 nickel size dots for the next panel.

Thanks for the reply. That's gonna be quite a bit of product for the first run.

You don't want to prime the pad when using Essence. 4-5 pea sized drops for the first section and then 2 drops for each section after. You want to use as little Essence as possible to get the job done. Spread on low speed, 2 section passes on speed 4-5 with medium pressure and then one final pass on speed 3 with no pressure. Essence breaks down rather quickly and you don't want to overwork it. You should have almost nothing left to wipe off.

I've tried it your way, but it dries out to quickly..feels like I'm dry buffing. Priming the pad seems to give me a smoother buffing cycle.

What lane5515 said! No need to overuse Essence. Use as little as possible to get the job done. The only two type of pads I use with Essence is a microfiber pad or a Gloss Pad. Both create the heat needed to make Essence work correctly.

Just read an article on Car Pro's Forum and the directions on Essence Plus is to prime the pad and do not use a mircofiber pad.

This contradicts what both of you are saying, but what do I know.

I recently tested out Essence, I used my Duetto and an orange pad and did not prime the pad. I put 5 pea size drops and it was plenty. So I'm casting my vote on "Essence" no priming.

If you want to avoid dry pad to paint, spritz the pad with distilled water or carpro immolube.

Are we talking Essence or Essence Plus here?
