As you will see from the attached photo, the exterior trim is a disaster. I clearly did it all wrong and did not prep it correctly. I used WG trim sealant and has collinite 845 over it too. Ugh... Any suggestions to get it back to a reasonably looking color?

Solution finish would be a good thing to use

I have not tried Mothers Back to Black Heavy Duty Trim but did see it at a local store and wondered about it since I read some good things about their tire cleaner - thanks for the tip -

You lost me on this--if you used Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant (WETS), that stuff is fantastic, I don't know how you got it all streaky like that, but in a million years I wouldn't thought to put 845 on top of it (845 does do great on trim, but I can't see how it would work on top of WETS).

I'd do an APC scrub with a soft (but not too soft) brush, thorough rinse, IPA wipe if you want, then try the WETS again.

Prep, prep, prep!

Solution Finish should work to "re-dye" this

APC at 4:1 scrub with a short nap microfiber towel, follow with a 25% IPA wipedown and rinse with high pressure hose. Allow to dry completely before application of SF

A week later, I would put a layer of WG Trim Sealant over it to extend the life of the SF

I really like CarPro DLUX, but I think this trim is too far gone for it to darken it enough

I have an Xterra and I use Mothers Back to Black and it makes the bumpers look great but I have never tried on the trim near the wipers

In retrospect putting 845 over the WETS was not one of my brightest moments. The advice here is helpful appreciate recommendations.

Power Clean scrub and MEDS Renu Pro. AG doesn't carry it but they should. i have used it a lot and love it for otherwise beat up exterior plastics.

i need to experiment and apply Opti-Lens over it sometime.

That looks like one of those "As Seen on TV"--order before midnight tonight! products

haha, i can see why you'd say that. the package i have is put together pretty well though. doesn't look very low budget in person.

but it works very well. have used it on Civic cowling and rain gutters, Mini flares, Wrangler flares and Tacoma flares/rear window surrounds. i don't think they stress enough about prep in their instructions but maybe the average person doesn't need to as long as it beats the run of the mill competition like Back to Black using their basic instructions.

So before you put the 845 on there how did the WETS look?

Well it looked good but it apparently did not cure / dry and then when waxing with 845, it looked alive again, now faced with a repair job to get it right.

It is messed up no doubt. Now I am wondering if the local (gasp) O' Rileys has any reliable APC. I know they have the mothers line. Ordering online from the various companies takes a week for delivery.

Thanks again to all who helped -

i think some people have had good things to say about the Mother's HD trim cleaner, which i'm sure can be found easily. that might be something to try :shrugs:

You have to apply the WETS thin, and wipe it down after a while if it doesn't dry. If you leave it wet it seems to never cure.

IIRC people have praised the Mother's APC, I haven't used it myself.

EDIT: Oh, the HD trim cleaner...I have mixed feelings about that. I personally think it should be rinsed after use...which happens to rinse off the nice black sheen it leaves.

the Mothers heavy duty trim cleaner works very well..........it can be found at just about any parts store, Auto Zone ,Advance, etc.

I have been able to bring back to life some nasty trim using it........not quite as bad as the op's but darn close.

To the OP try the Mother's product......clean it, then use the WETS again and stop there. I think its savable.
