I'm needing some advice on my next big detailing purchase. Our bonuses came in this year and was more than I was expecting, and the Mrs. just gave me the go-ahead to update my arsenal for 2008. I am in the market for either a new rotary (I currently have a cheapo I picked up to practice) plus some misc. extras, or picking up a commercial extractor (currently have LGCM). If I get a top-notch rotary, I will have plenty of money left over and can put to use on the house, but the extractor will be at the top of my budget that I'm willing to shell out from my bonus. I've looked at the Durrmaid, Aztec, and Mytee lines and really like the Durrmaid/Aztec for their size/mobility. I don't really upsell a lot carpet shampoos on my details (most are exterior-focused), as the lack of extractor makes it pretty time consuming and not very profitible using a LGCM. Spot cleaning is one thing, but doing an SUV/van is a flat out nightmare sometimes. As far as the rotary goes, I'd probably go with the new Flex or a Metabo.

I'm pretty much trying to figure out which upgrade can turn out to be the most useful/profitable. Right now I'm leaning toward the extractor, but its a lot more to sink into to something and would take much longer to recoup my investment. What do you all think? To those who have an extractor, which one do you have/would you recommend?

How about both? :). There is a small extractor on Cleanfreak dot com for $319.... it looks like a very nice unit and might actually be bigger than the duramain / aztec for cheaper. Let me know if you want more info. The Metabo rotary looks like a great machine but lacks the trigger for slow start ups, which is preventing me from buying that unit. A Dewalt or Makita rotary can be had from Ebay for a decent price if you want to go that route. The new Flex rotary looks enticing as well ...

I say get the Flex now, and get the extracter when you get your tax return or at a later date....i have the extracter Bud is talkin about from cleanfreak and it has been awesome for the price and is a commercial machine...

mytee lite, which i hv runs about 700-800 and works great. i bought the floor wand as well and us it in my house. chemicals will cost you about 70 and last a while.

it depends on how you use/like the rotary. maybe the flex would be better since you hv an entry rotary for the tough correction.

both are good upgrades to your arsenal.
i do like my metabo a lot too.

Well if Wifey only allows one present for yourself then go extractor......

Reason because not to many drivers pay top dollar for a two or three step polish...

I will say this u might get soccer moms vans/suv(i know i do) and they tend to perfer the interior look it best then exterior....

dont go cheap on this if you can afford to shell out do so..again there lot to look @, also keep in mind to get a brand that has a local repair center....Heated is a must imho...

Extractor. I do not know how I got by with out mine. Took me a year to get it, but man, I would never go back.....
If I had to give up my extractor, I would never touch an interior again.......

I would also go with the Flex. This machine is a Beast! I love mine and I've only had it a week. Believe the Hype about the Flex! As far as extractors go. I have an Aztec Mini heated model. Since I run a mobile business this was the best choice for me. The extractor will be almost 2 times price of the Flex. But there is a list of people waiting on the Flex. I think it's worth the wait!

Thanks for the info on the extractor. I took a look at the site and saw one for $309. Looks nice, but isn't a heated model from the description. Almost every detailer I've talked to HIGHLY recommended getting a heated model. The more I research the more I think the Durrmaid is best suited to my needs, but I want to hear more from people who have actually used the unit.

Showroom how do you like the Aztec? Looks like a really nice machine, and almost identical spec-wise to the Durrmaid.

Thanks for the feedback TexasTB, I appreciate it. That's what I'm looking to hear.
