I cannot think of a worse feeling.

In hindsight, TEOTWAWKI reaction of people would be interesting to study from an emergency management and planning standpoint.

I’m guessing someone(s) will not be coming into their emergency management office(s) on Monday. If they do come in, they will not be leaving employed.

It's hard to imagine that sort of alert doesn't require supervisory approval. If it doesn't, the person in charge of the development needs some attention.

The paranoid side of me suspects they were hacked. Maybe by NK.

I never even thought of the hacking possibility. Very likely. Top “fake news” story of 2018

What a wake up call. Cleaning up in my bathroom at around 8 AM and my IPhone give off this awful alert sound. We are under a ballistic missile attack. Take cover, it will only be mintues before being hit by land or sea. THIS IS NOT A TEST!! Take cover.

My first question to my self is, take cover where?? There are no bomb shelters near by.

Minutes go by and waiting for this big explosion, talk about anxiety!!!

Eighteen minutes later the false alarm is posted.

So glad that Hell didn’t rain down
upon the good people of Hawaii...

{Heard the (false)alarm was due
to a misquoted syllogistic fallacy.}

My wife was born in Hawaii. Military kid.

Her Step Mom and brother still live there. (Hilo).

What a debacle of scary texts/calls today. Yeesh......

Fake news? Do you doubt the alert went out? I would say the more probable explanation is fake government explanation. I do not believe an alert like that could be sent out without a deliberate action.

Talk about chaos, people were shoving their kids down man holes.

Sorry, no that wasn’t my intention with the “fake news” comment. It was a very poor play on the whole foreign government (in this case NK not Russia) allegedly interfering with of our lives and tying it into buzz news story of “fake news”. And this literally being “fake” as in false alert. I have no doubt the text alert went out. Again sorry for the misunderstanding.

My response was more directed at the present political situation rather than you, also. There is fake news out there. But a lot of information being called 'Fake News' is actually information being reported accurately with the source providing false information. Like Phillips says regularly, words mean something. I was just interjecting to get the meaning presented correctly.

Sorry if it came off as I was busting on you. You weren't my focus.

Ducksfan,

You weren’t busting on me. I needed to clarify the comments of mine and you were just asking.

In case of absolute emergency: Break seal and pour a bottle of Cquartz over yourself, starting from head down to ensure complete coverage, using a suede applicator for hard to reach areas.

Protection for 2yrs. or 1 good nuclear blast, whichever comes 1st. Lol.

Apparently it was an employee who pushed the wrong button before during shift changeover. That is what the news reported this am. First of all, I can't imagine it's just ONE button to make such a huge mistake and secondly, I would expect that multiple people at multiple levels would also have to concur and approve such an action, if not be directly involved in it themselves. Sounds fishy and yes, someone MUST be held accountable and lose their job over this. There should be processes and procedures in place such that this cannot happen as it did.

They will be re-trained, unless they have a specific go on how to avoid that situation.
"That's the way we've always done it" is a great defense as well, even if it's wrong.

Interesting “control processes” in my opinion if this was some “accident”.

Even at Homeland or just about anywhere worth a grain of salt, there are procedures and protocols and processes to take place.

- you don’t just launch a nuke in one step of pushing a button either

Yeah, funny now.

In the event of a true emergency, i will be glad if there are no multiple approvers that could delay sending out the alarm.

Maybe someone is trying to put the current president in a bad light?

Are you kidding me, he's been a bad light since he took office.
