I had an old video clip of it and ended up finding it already loaded up on Youtube. This was a guy down here with s/c'd 347 in his Explorer running at Moroso, still towed and daily drove it. They banned him from the track for a year for running with no roll cage, that's why you'll notice him let off and hit brakes to keep from running full out, then said f' it on the last run. This was with about 490 rwhp, then if I recall they tuned it to about 600 rwhp and last I heard it was getting a tear down and custom turbo setup. He never did get to use the nitrous, I remember him embarrassing some Ferrari owners that wanted to race him lol.

Wystang on here I think will remember the truck, think they sold him the Cobra hood that they formed to fit the truck. Couple years ago I was talking to the shop about dropping in the 03' Cobra engine into the other Mountaineer I had and going all out but ended up not doing it, man that would have been fun though lol.

It was pretty fast but it's still a truck. It's ok if you like going in a straight line. I would take the Ferrari and race him on a track anyday.:D

Hey, he needed a quick daily driver that still towed daily lol, funny hearing the sound come from it though and you look over and its an Explorer lol. Besides, the F-car would fall apart on the track after getting humped by the Bull ;)

Yup that's it we sold them the 96 cobra hood and they in turned cut the center section out of both the explorer hood and cobra hood. They they just placed the cobra section on the explorer and molded it perfectly (if I remember correctly). The motor fit nicely in there and sounded pretty good to say the least.

347'S KICK A_ _!I had one with a vortech s trim in my 91 lx and used to were-out my friends viper all the time in the quarter.I wish I never sold that car.

If gas prices weren't so crappy I would strongly consider doing one. But thats not gonna happin so a somewhat built 302 will remain :( not even a KB blower double :( :(

wow, 11.81 seconds and it reached 117.46 miles, that's fast!!!
With only 490 rwhp, was tuned to somewhere over 600 rwhp, and last I heard it was being stripped down with a custom turbo setup. Nice daily driver suv, lol.

Apples and Oranges.

I would love to own that Explorer.

my dad's friend has a turbo diesel excursion that ran high 12's. Ever since feeling the what, 1000 ft/lb torque, I WANT ONE!

Out of college, Ive decided to buy a TB F250 :D Used, but man, those engines are just INSANE with some mods.

If you ever build one get the coast high kit(Crank, rods, pistons, etc)It was the best one out of all the ones I checked out and I can say from first hand the pistons were good for 20lbs of boost.

Yeh our old neighbor had an Excursion that ran high 12's, I don't even remember the work that was done but know the turbo's were upgraded and it had propane injection. Towed his boat like there were a pair of jet ski's out back lol.

But the Explorer was a beast, it ripped on the street, and those runs were on the old setting, it ended up with 600+ rwhp but they never ran it at the track b/c the cage wasn't installed yet. Only Explorer I know of that had Sparco racing seats I think with harnesses LOL.

hahaha thats good #### :D

It may be apples and oranges but if the Ferrari the orange I'll take that one and you can have the apple.
Good. If we are racing and I wreck my Explorer, I'll just transer the power components and such to a new Explorer and be good for another race. But if you wreck your Ferrari, well, to bad. That is one expensive Orange to drop. Besides, the ability to afford that kind of Orange is in question for 99% of people.

AND, most people that have the money to buy an exotic don't have the balls to drive it like it was built.

I'm not trying to start anything here, but you can't compare a top end exotic to a home build Explorer. The money and practicality differences are on opposite ends of the spectrum.
