Lately I'm finding out that most detailers offer there customers details that only involve claying the car and add LSP. They refer to these details as "mini detail" I truly hate to have to offer my customers a comparable detail. I try to educate them and explain that such details are leaving out the most important step. And why.
I'm sorry if there's been a recent post on this topic, I've been away from detailing for the last couple years and that has kept me from being on the forum.
So I'm curious what is your go to LSP?

How long do you want the protection to last? In the last couple of years a number of ceramic spray detailers have come out that really have good hydrophobics and very decent longevity. One is the Feynlab, another is TEC582 that you can get a gallon at Amazon for $26.

You still have the wrap on your truck but haven’t really been detailing for the past 2yrs? Story time?

I like that quote.. The true mark of quality.
I believe that’s Henry Leyland, right?
Either him or Ford?

I just. did the wrap last week. And this is the first time I've gone mobile in 20+ years.

I have a 2 year old gallon of it and is what I've used in past. Has there been any improvement to the product since?

Which Feynlap are you referring to?

The current "express detail" goes under the guise of "wash, clay, seal". As in wash as normal, then clay with a synthetic clay product while using a spray sealant as the lubricant. You won't correct anything, but the customer can see and feel the gloss and slickness, which is all that matters to most.

You'd otherwise just wash and finish with a good spray sealant.

I only occasionally have paid customers, but the last one I did had no desire for any type of mechanical polishing. Despite heavy swirling and lots of random marring, he simply wanted the truck clean and the paint protected.

For those types of jobs I like Wolfgang's SiO2 Paint Sealant. Easy to apply, a little goes a long way, it's durable, and adds some nice gloss regardless of the surface conditions.

Carpro Reload, ADS Ceramic Spray Sealant, NV Boost. However, I probably wouldn't use those for this wash-clay-seal as they wouldn't be lubricated enough, or be cost effective.

So, and I know this will rile some up because of where this advice comes from, the products recommended, and the ordering of those products, but its a proven combination -

- Wash as normal
- Clay using P&S Bead Maker as the lubricant
- Dry
- After you've finished with the rest of the detail, go back and apply P&S Defender as a final pre-handover inspection wipe down.

The Bead Maker is cheap enough to use in this way, while also offering decent lubrication. Then, topping that with Defender improves the longevity. That's counter to what we've normally been told, ie most durable product first, but for whatever reason it works. In theory, something like 3D Bead it Up or Technicians Choice TEC582 could substitute for Bead Maker, but I've always found Bead Maker provides that wax-like glossiness. Either way, I'd be interested to hear what you go with.

I have a 2 year old gallon of 582 and just wrote technician's Choice an hour ago, asking if there formula has been changed since then. But I know Bead Maker has been very popular. As far as P&S Defender I wasn't aware of that product.
Thank you again DFB!

Defender was released in about 2022 or 2023. When it came out, everyone was expecting a Bead Maker 2.0, instead Defender is a very different beast that addressed the apparent lack of durability of Bead Maker.

I was actually late the Bead Maker train, so I bypassed the hype period during its first few years on the market. I just like it because of the gloss and slickness, not the "protection" it leaves................that's what the underlying coating or wax is for.

This might be a old school and this probably won't be a popular opinion but....

Why not use something like Optimum Car Wax? It has been proven and one of the original Clay/wax combo products. It gives some limited durability but also has a nicer "wax like" glow and is cost effective. Most of the people that just want a "cheap" wash/clay/seal are not also looking for the absolute best products. It also doesn't "seal up" towels like BeadMaker and other Si02 sealants.

That's a good idea. OCW lists at $55/gallon, which is a lot more than TEC582, not sure what it's going for on the street.

Oddly, even though at the OPT site they still call it "Optimum Car Wax", the labeling on the pictured bottles says "Optimum Spray Wax".

If you haven't tried the Feynláb Hybrid Ceramic Detailer you should give it a try. A little goes a long way. I do my Tacoma and use approx 2 oz for the whole thing.
TEC 582 is a great product. I dilute it 1:1 with distilled water, apply with a microfiber applicator and buff off. I tend to apply it a little heavier than the Feynlab. At 1:1 I can apply it liberally and it doesn't streak.

I love using the Feynlab HCD. Easy to use and love the gloss and short term protection too.

Found the original video where the wash/clay/seal process is demonstrated by everyone's favorite youtube personality

OCW is a great choice, I just pullled some out last weekend and used it, looks great on darker colors for sure. On silvers/whites IMO, it does good enough but there are much glossier product for those colors.

I know BeadMaker gets so much air time, but I still don't get it. I bought some back a while ago and it was a total dud to me, reminded me of CG Hybrid V7.

Best value for protection and shine…. I’d still ratecGriots ceramic 3-1 as a great product that will last a true 6 months.
