Not too long ago, I purchased this 2011 Mazda 3 GTs. It had very few miles on it and came certified from the dealer. They did a number on the paint though... swirls everywhere.

Because I didn't want to go thinning the clear coat without knowing more about it's current condition and thickness, I decided to just go with a glaze/filler for the swirls this time around. I used a finessing pad on my GG DA with Pinnacle's Paintwork Cleansing Lotion. It fights the swirls well, but not perfectly. I won't be showing any swirl-revealing photos until I eliminate them completely later this summer. =D

For now, the process I completed helped to hide many of the swirls and brought the paint up to a nice gloss. Here's the exact process I followed. Below that, I have some pictures from a test-drive that I allowed my brother. This was a rare event! :xyxthumbs:

Washed with XMT's standard wash.
Clayed
Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion
BFWD
DoDo Juice Supernatural as an LSP

Windows: The windows on this thing are near-perfectly maintained. I have yet to find more than a few water marks. I hit the few markings that I found with Detailers Pro watermark remover. After that, I sealed all of the windows with BFWD. By the way, I've always found BFWD to be very effective on glass. It doesn't last very long against wiper blades, although I'm not sure many sealants would.

Just before the photo shoot, I hit it with some Crystal Mist as it had collected dust over night.

My brother enjoying his first test drive of this car... maybe too much so for this parking lot.

One more thing... Here's a quick shot of my new shift knob. Luckily, I found a manual on the lot!

One thing that I'm not too fond of with this car is the fact that the dealer installed paint protection on the lower half of the hood, as well as some other areas. While it does a darn good job at keeping the chips away, it doesn't look that hot. I cleaned wax residue off of the seams of the paint film and it helped it blend a little more. Luckily, the application is nearly flawless with no bubbles or ripples. I'll live with it for the time being, if only for the added protection.

Let me know what you guys think! This weekend I'll be testing out my new tub of FK 1000P on the roof. I hope to post a short review on my findings because there can never be too many opinions out there for a product.

Looks great! I'll be detailing a 3 for a friend in the next few weeks...looking forward to it!

I've got a 2007 Mazda 3 Sport in black and it is a nice car, but very hard to keep truly clean. It's also a kid mobile so never as clean as yours will be. When they are clean they are super slick cars though.

Nice job. I have one of these that I'm going to be doing for a friend. He's got a '12 or '13 Speed3and it's black. That thing looks good though man. Good job.

The black 3s look very very good imo. It helps hide the goofy grin on the front too. :xyxthumbs: The numerous folds and curves in the sheet metal catch the light on this baby, so they are a treat to clean!

I can attest to it being a difficult car to keep clean for myself as well. I've noticed that the hatch catches every speck of grime within 10 miles as soon as it rains. While the rest of the car is air-dried as I drive, everything seems to collect back there. It must have something to do with odd aerodynamics. Have you noticed that as well?

Speed3s are awesome. Get some pictures!

I would have really enjoyed the extra oomph in the speed, but I couldn't quite get what I wanted in one on my budget. Some day!

I've got a customer that has the 2012 Mazdaspeed version in Black Mica. Hit it the first time with the MF system and boy did it light up! :) Since then, (5 weeks ago) its just wash and spray wax.

Plus my future son-in-law also drives a 2011 in Black Mica, although not the Mazdaspeed version. Talk about two totally different cars! The 'speed' one makes my G35 6MT, Aero with 4WS and sport handling package drive like a 80's Cadillac. That, and has torque steer so bad you can't hardly keep it in the road if you get down on it. My customer thinks it's just awesome (he's a kid) but imho it's freaking dangerous! It'll literally wander from one side of the lane to the other at 45 when going through the gears.

Black Mica is probably my favorite color, tied with Winning Blue Metallic. 2nd Favorite would be the Velocity Red Mica on my own.

The speed3s are definitely a treat to control with that torque steer, I can agree there. If you're not watching it, the thing will run you right off the road. It's as if the car has a deathwish out for you the moment you step on the pedal.

The non-speed version is definitely much calmer and more composed, almost bordering on slow, even with the 2.5L. But that's all good for a daily driver! Thanks for the comments!

Oh I definitely will. I'm going to do his car sometime soon. I just have to get time to do it. But I will definitely do a little write up on it when I'm finally able to do it.

Just realized I didn't mean to say that the 'speed' version made my G35 seem slow, just that it made it seem smoooooooooooth. GOOD LORD does that little wagon ride rough!

My daughter went with me to deliver it back the first time, (because she's used to the 'non speed' version, both driving it and riding in it) and although we only had to go just under 3 miles she decided before we were half way there that there was NO WAY she would ever want to drive that car as a DD. Just too twitchy. ;)

OTOH, she's been with me running 85 on a twisty country back road, hanging the rear end out and was totally comfortable with it.

Haha, I guess I never realized just how rough they are. I haven't spent much time in any speed3s outside of the absurdly smooth roadways near my home. If I were to own one myself I would certainly have to take that into account! I always assumed that they would handle similarly to the standard 3 when on an easy, daily drive.

Hmmm, it's hard to resist taking those back roads! Might as well teach your daughter to do it right!

Yup... I didn't realize how rough they were either till I started doing this one. No thanks!

And yes! My daughter might as well know when NOT to panic. ;) Just as much as when to freak out I reckon.
