After browsing the site for quite some time in preparation for getting my '69 Z out of bare metal into primer and finally in paint, I decided to register.
I'm John, and this is my '69 Z/28 I've owned since 1971. It's not been on the road since 1985, instead just sitting around in my garage collecting dust. Things settled down about 10 years ago, so I was able to start working on it little by little, and got more serious about it in the past 3 years. So now it's in paint - for the most part. We're in the process of prepping it to put the Z/28 stripes on (Dover White), and then pull all the front sheet metal and doors off to finish the jambs and cowl area. We're doing this in my 2-car garage, so I have someone that comes to the house and does the bodywork and painting while I do what I can to help (and I get to learn the process at the same time).
The car is Fathom Green painted with PPG DBC and cleared with PPG Concept 2021. There's a little bit of dirt in the clear, and some orange peel, but overall it's not bad considering we painted it in my garage.
I'm hoping to get the nerve to tackle the color sanding and buffing myself once we've got the stripes and jambs/cowl area finished, so I've been perusing the various threads on here to get the basics on what I'm in for. One of the paint supply stores here has classes so I just finished taking a class last night on cut & buff where I did get hands-on experience using a polisher, which is a LOT different than doing the block sanding by hand on the primer... So if I can get enough courage and get over the 'fear' of using power tools on that expensive paint, I should be good to go. Which is where this site comes in...
I look forward to following the various threads on here, and watching the various videos, and will post photos when it's all done.
