Here was my claybar thread.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/38038-my-2000-grand-am-gt-coupe-love-color.html

This took the color to a whole new extreme. Its hard to believe this GAGT is a 2000 with 110K. Finally replaced the ehadlight housings with new ones, so that really helps finish this!

I only did the paint, didnt worry about anything else. The wheel wells are dirty and i didnt get anything on the rubber trim.

Washed
M105 with PC XP and Yellow LLC 6.5" Pad
M205 with PC XP and White LLC 6.5" Pad
Washed again b/c of the CRAZY amount of dust from the 105
DodoJuice Hard Candy Wax

Wheels were just washed and tires dressed ith ArmorAll Tire Gel.

Before:

The swirls were crazy bad. they were like this over the entire car. not 1 square inch was swirl free.

I hate this. Next car i buy that has this sort of shape in front of the rear wheels, is getting the 3M Clear Vinyl treatment. I seen this on many cars, GAGT's, Saturn Sky's, and many more.

Very nice job!!!! That paint looks like candy!!!

Great work! Those swirls were really hiding the metallic flake in that paint! Way to bring it back to life!

Real nice car you have there. Excellent work reconditioning it and good post\pics.
Two words- mud flaps. Pity about the front wheel stone kick back. Maybe you should not burn rubber in the gravel? lol

I couldnt get a good picture when i did my test pass with the 105 and 205. but with just 2 passes with the 105, there was a HUGE difference in the paint that was easily noticeable. It really brought out the color!

I have owned this car since 2002, except for a few years when i sold it but he barly put any miles on it before i bought it back. I put all the swirls in the paint when i was in high school b/c i washed it once a week and didnt use the 2 bucket method back then, and there wasnt microfiber towels back then.

Thanks.

haha, yah the kick back is insane. I did a burgandy saturn sky that had it VERY bad also. and the car only had 10K on it.

Nice job! Also nice to see another 105/205 fan.:xyxthumbs:

thanks! i wish the dusting could be minimized with the 105. i love how fast they work.

I think Menzerna SIP and Nano Polish is better, but they take waaaay too long to work in and more expensive. I save that duo for higher end cars and show cars. and i dont even need to think about a second wash with the SIP.

Your car's paint is BEAUTIFUL!!!! The pearl is very evident and pops in front of your eyes! The transformation is amazing. Great job in making your car show car worthy!

Looking good!

I only use M105 in dire situations, it can be a real pain sometimes.

Very nice! I would have liked to see a 50/50 pic, but that is OK...Good Job!!

thanks alot! i definitely cant complain about the color. Thats what sold it to me 9 years ago! Its one of the nicest stock colors, and with the lines of the car, it really shows it off! looks better now than it did back then!

Looking good!

haha yah!

This detail took me 9.5 hours. I plan on buying a Flex Lightweight Rotary. So that should cut my time down a few hours.

The green paint on your GrandAM is gorgeous and needed a little persuasion to come alive. The Meguiar's combo was the perfect solution and made the finish better than new. Thanks for taking the time to share the before and after photos! :props:

Just for fun, try what I use.
I put a couple of drops of mineral oil (baby oil will work) on the pad before I start to polish. It keeps the 105 "wet" and really helps with the dusting. If two drops doesn't work use a few more. I find that it really lengthens the 105 working time. Just remember that you will have to wipe down afterwards with alky or mineral spirits to remove the "oily residue"
