I went through my PC box and my sheet on pad use and discovered these two terms used. Finessing Pad / Finishing Pad. Unfortantly, stupid me, I don't know the difference or what each would be used for. Help!

Finessing or finishing pad would be terms for a soft foam polishing pad.

Generally speaking, foam pads can be placed into 1 of about 4 to 6 categories depending upon how far down you want to drill.

Aggressive cutting
Cutting
Polishing
Finishing <-- Finessing or finishing pads would be here
Jeweling
Waxing

A person could argue that a finessing or finishing pad would be a jewelling pad like showing below but from my memory, pads like the Lake Country Gold Jewelling Pad are a relatively new comer in the context of foam pad categories so in the context of whatever that sheet of pad information you have with you polisher the info is probably referring to a finishing pad.

Is this a Porter Cable polisher or are you using the PC term generically? I just don't remember a pad sheet being included with Porter Cable polishers but I could be wrong.

The word finesse is a word Meguiar's used back in the 1980's to describe their Hi Tech Finesse Paint Polishing System but they found the word to fancy for the body shop world and dropped it. Later 3M picked it up and still uses it today.

You're just full of tid-bits of information, Mike.:xyxthumbs:
