This is meant to be a quick review of FK 425 ESFBS. This is basically a quick detailer, that FK claims to have some anti-static properties and to add some protection including UV protection. They also mention it can be used as a clay lube and on pretty much any non-porous exterior vehicle surface.

From PBMG's copy:

"Finish Kare 425 Extra Slick Final Body Shine works like a conventional quick detail spray by removing dust, fingerprints, and smudges, but it also protects the paint with anti-corrosive agents and UV inhibitors held in place by polymer resins. This additional protection reinforces your existing wax or paint sealant."

From this point on I will just call the product 425.

The picture directly below was "altered". No other pictures here were altered, they were all taken with a P & S Sony camera.

I'm not testing the "anti-static" or protection/hydrophobic properties here of 425 - so that is why I am calling this a quick review. The product is about $16 for 31oz and comes with a sprayer as pictured. The sprayer is a "no frills" off/on type sprayer - but works just fine and doesn't dribble or leak. In case you haven't noticed, 425 is bright pink - to me it smells like strawberry candy.

I'm guessing this is FK's most popular product for the retail market. It seems, most people who try this stuff seem to like it. However, some have reported some streaking on darker colors... My experience is that this is a possibility on black, but is not a real issue - only in direct sun or hot panels. Although FK claims it can be used on glass - I'd skip it.

The reason why I'd skip it on glass is the same reason why I wouldn't use this on anything but a car that was just washed... Although FK says it can be used to remove fingerprints and dust. That reason is, this stuff is thick and LOADED with whatever "shiny stuff" that makes a QD add gloss to paint. I'm not sure if it's silicone or some magical gloss enhancing nectar from rare jungle plants - but 425 really makes paint look great. In fact, that's it's strong point - and it may do that better than any other similar product.

The next point I'd like to make about this stuff is it's SLICK. If you like slick paint - 425 is for you. I have been using this product for about a year or so, and while I have not consciously monitored if it repels/attracts dust - I haven't noticed it attracting dust. So, whatever the magical "glossy slick stuff" is in 425 - it seems to not be sticky towards airborne particles.

The best way I have found to apply 425 is the same way I apply all other QD - with a 16"x24" microfiber towel (pictured above) folded in eights to a clean car. Since the product is thick, I find that you may use a bit more 425 compared to other QD products. So, a second WW towel may come in handy to buff once your original WW becomes too wet to accomplish the job. Using 425 may take just a minute or so longer than some other QDs that just seem to flash off immediately - but for the look of 425 the extra time is worth it.

I washed my car and did a 425 wipe down after the car was dry using the single towel in the picture above. The wax is BF MS. I was able to do the whole black car without any streaks outside in about 70°F temps (sun was setting). So, while it may take just a little more care to use to use 425 on a dark car compared to something like V7, it's not finicky enough to be an issue. Even though 425 contains no carnauba - I've noticed it seems to work really well on a surface with "wax".

The day after applying, I took these pictures:

Here are some pics I took of the trunk opening and it different positions. I was trying to catch how 425 makes light shimmer and flake pop in different angles of sun quite well...

I was able to obtain the MSDS directly from FK. You merely have to go one their website and "register" by typing in some of your info to get a MSDS for any of their products. Maybe they will send me a few cases of 425 after they read this review...Oh, if anyone from FK is reading, I'd like some of that sealant with the shark on the can as well.

So, I guess you can surmise I really like this stuff. This is the only FK product I have tried so far. This stuff if far better than OTC type QDs - as it really adds to the look of your paint. A lot of people seem to like their paste sealant as well - you know, the one with the shark on the can.

That s some nice review mate ! I ll have to order some in a future order .

Thanx for sharing .

Super write-up. Nothing but love for 425. Use it on mirrors in the house, does a right fair job.

A very nice product indeed, but many exist in this space. Its best to get the gallon and save some additional $$.

been using this stuff for yeeaarrrss, good stuff...

I love FK425. And like others it is most likely my favorite post wash wipe down product.

I just wish they made a concentrate version to be more cost effective to me. A gallon only last so long when you use it all the time.

It also works great to wipe-down TV screens. :xyxthumbs:

Swainic, nice review. I've been working on doing review on some products lately. FK was going to be one of them. No way I'm touching that. Great detail, great pics, great write up.

I put it on the nose of my Vette before every drive so the bugs come off easy afterwards.

I was looking for a QD product to replace what i was currently using about 3-4 months ago and after a thorough search here it yielded FK425 mentioned so many times as a favorite.

So i ordered a gallon! LOVE that stuff.

Swanicyouth, thanks for sharing this. Would you say this can be used as a drying aid after washing the car just like Optimum Instant Detailer or Sonax BSD?

Yes. You can use pretty much any QD as a drying aid - since pretty much ALL QDs are mostly water, so the ingredients are water soluble. 425 works fine on a wet car.

I'm loving this product. Definitely works well with BlackFire.

Realized I double posted a photo. This was supposed to be one of the photos:

I have read your review on Dodo RMT and you gave it a 10/10 (calling it different, slick and glossy) and you've also spoken very highly with similar key characteristics of FK425 in this review as well.
How would you compare 425 with Dodo RMT from purely *looks* perspective ?

Nice to see a thorough reveiw of this product. Thanks for taking the time. I've been looking to get back to a dedicated QD for a while. I had a gal. of 425 my cart and at the last minute switched it out with DG 522. Oh Well.
1000P is great. For those that don't like the look of a sealant, it makes a stellar sealant for wheels, exhaust tips, etc.
