I recently ordered 3 black lc css pads for finishing. Im now reading that they have cut to them so they dont make good finishing pads even tho the chart says there is no cut to them. Should i send them back and exchange them for blue pads? Is there any use for them since i have orange and white pads? Need some help on what to do. thanks.

They are good finishing pads, and the amount of cut they have is basically none. To me, blue pads are great and are awesome last step pads but in all actuality you would see little if any difference in the finish between a black and blue pad. Most of it comes down to how good your technique is for finishing and burnishing the paint.

They do have very minimal cut as christian pointed out, but you should be fine finishing with them. I have used both the black and the blue pads to finish and I don't notice much of a difference if any..

I agree. The black pads seem very plush to me. I like that they are a little sturdier than the blue and red and this makes them easier to use on the PC (it doesn't stall out so easy on curves/uneven or not flat surfaces).

thanks alot for the replies. i feel much better now about the decision i made.

A lot of people will finish off with the black pads on harder clear coats too.

i did this to get a good correctin to lsp. orange with heavy compound, gray/black pad with a light swirl remover, and red for finish. the gray did pretty good for a slight cut compound on them to get out the rest of the imperfections, but i havent used them to apply sealant or wax though, id still prefer to stick with something that you know has zero cut on it. spend 10 bucks and get something you know works.

:iagree:

Deciding what pad to Jewel with really depends on the hardness of your clear coat.

For instance on really soft paint I use red, a little less soft blue, harder clears get jeweled with black.

Besides the foam formula, other factors include,

  • Speed Setting - for applying a finishing wax or paint sealant stay between 3.0 and 4.0
  • Downward pressure - just a little more than the weight of the machine, enough to keep the pad running smooth over the surface.
  • Amount of product - You want to use an ample amount, that is not too much, not to little, remember your LSP is also a lubricant during application.
  • Number of Passes - 2-3 passes over each square inch is usually sufficient for a finishing wax or finishing sealant.
I just went out to the AG Garage and felt a new, clean gray/black CCS foam pad and it's so soft that it should be the least of your worries.

Great thread.
So correct me if I'm wrong, but it's fine if I use Menzerna PO85U or PB's sealant with a black or blue pad... it won't change anything ?

it is recommended using a finishing pad (grey, blue or newer red) with the 085rd polishes. All work well.
