This past weekend I detailed my friend's dad's 2008 Nissan Maxima. It was pretty clean other than having a ton of swirls. He wasn't looking for a complete paint correction, so I figured this would be a good opportunity to try out the Megs Ultimate Compound for the first time.

I've been using Megs M105/205 for a few months now and am really pleased with the results those two products offer, so that's kind of my baseline of comparison for the Megs UC. Obviously the UC didn't offer as much correction as M105, but it did knock out all the swirls in the car's finish and gave it a nice, even gloss. The UC had an exceptional working time, much longer than M105, and also much less dusting than M105. It was about 75-78 degrees (hottest day so far this year...sad, I know) the day I detailed this car and the UC just seemed to keep working and working.

Ironically this brings me to my one complaint about Megs UC. It almost seemed like it didn't want to cure! Wiping it off and buffing out was a real hassle as it seemed like it wanted to smear a lot. I've never experience this with any other polish before.

I did use M105 on the hood because I did a little wet sanding in a few areas to clean up some very poor touchup painting that was done. The M105 was also followed up with Megs UC. Griot's Paint Sealant was used as LSP.

Anyways, here's a few quick pics of the car before and after.

***Altima. Not sure why I said Maxima. For some reason I don't have the option to edit my first post.

Nice job on the car. :props:

If by curing you mean to dry, Meguiar's Ultimate Compound should not dry. You do not want it to dry. Apply it, work it into the finish to remove the swirls and then wipe it off before it dries.

What pad did you use with UC. Did you consider following up with m205?

I used an orange LC CCS pad w/Meguiars G110V2. For the amount of money, UC was going to be it. The owner was very happy with the results and said it looked much better than what the dealership usually did. No surprise there though.

You shouldn't be letting any polish "cure" or dry.

My experience with M105 is that it dries pretty quickly, so that's what I was basing my comment off of. Not that I "let it" dry, so much as it simply has a short working time before it starts to dry up.

When I was wiping off the UC it smeared quite a bit, so I tried waiting for it to dry up a little for ease of removal, which didn't happen anyways.

:iagree:

Hmmm... I didn't have that issue with UC when I used it with a white pad and worked it. You are probably using too much product, tends to smear when too much is applied IMO.

I'm going to try uc. I'm over how hard it is to remove m105. That stuff is like cement.

It will work.

The otc equivilent would be ultimate polish I suppose.

But yes, if you feel you could get more gloss, then go ahead and reach for the 205.
