So on Saturday I finally got the time to polish my car for the first time. This was my first ever paint correction. I take pretty good care of my car on the inside and wax it at least once a month. You can see my first post I made about my car in this thread.

So I received my Flex 3401 bundle from AG in 3 business days, and had to wait a week and a half for the chemical guys order to come in.

I will post this thread under product reviews because these are my first impressions of any paint correction products, and maybe those who were thinking of doing paint correction for the first time will get some inspiration from this thread.

My Chemical Guys order consisted of:
V34, V36, & V38 16oz compounds and polishes
Fine grade surface cleansing mitt (nanoskin)
Mr. Pink Shampoo
2 sets of 6.5in sample pads + 2 16oz pad cleaner (+3 from AG)
  • 2 Orange Pads
  • 2 White Pads
  • 2 Black Pads
16oz New Look Trim Gel
16oz Jetseal (Free with $150 order)

Total cost was around $210.

I apologize, I did not take very many pictures.

My process was:
Wash with Mr. Pink
Clay with CG Luber (The nanoskin made this process a lot quicker than regular clay)
Blow dry
V36 &V38
Jetseal
Meguiar's NXT 2.0 Wax

Here are some before pictures:

Notice the headlight is a little bit yellow, not bad, wasnt planning on correcting it, but went over it with V36 and orange pad anyways.

Really bad paint on the hood. Rock chips, the white dots are overspray I think.

Look at the headlight now. I got 70 % correction on that. I wasn't planning on doing anything to the headlights but thought hey might as well. I will wetsand and polish them at a later time.

Removed only about half of the white spots.

Reflection Shot

Total time was around 8 hours. I was very surprised because in the thread I mentioned above people were suggesting it would take me 15 hours or more. I was not rushing, and was trying to do everything as best I could. I ended up using V38 and white pad on most of the car. For the areas that needed more correction I used V36 and orange pad and then V38 and white pad. Overall, I am very happy with my results, if not counting whatever those white dots on the hood are, I would say i definitely got at least 90% correction.

Now to review the CG products.
They all smelled really good, Mr. Pink had the best scent of all, I think Cherry Bubblegum? The rest I couldn't really match a scent to but they too smelled pretty good. For me, V36 and V38 were enough since my Honda has very soft paint. I realize for most people this would not be close to enough cutting power. V36 had very little dust, and V38 almost none, and I was able to keep on working the area without the polish drying up. I used small areas, the hood was 6 sections, the doors were 4 and the other panels were also worked in small sections. I made 4-6 cross section passes on each section. I used speed 5 on the Flex 3401 for both polishes.

Jetseal was also very easy to use, I decided to apply it by machine because I was so excited about my Flex polisher. It operated pretty smoothly, it took a couple sections and I was able to keep the pad flat. Jetseal was also extremely easy to wipe off. It took very little effort and it just buffed right off.

My only complaint with CG is the shipping time. I realize that CG doesn't have as good of a reputation on here as Meguiar's or Wolfgang, but I was happy with their products, but I will also be trying out different brands as well.

My English teacher noticed how shiny my car is and wondered if I would be able to make her car that shiny. I'm pretty excited to already have potential customers even though I'm not even advertising. I also realize I will have to start out with lower prices if I want to obtain customers and gradually increase my prices.

I am happy to join the detailing community.
