Today we received a shipment of one of many new-for-2012 Meguiar's car care products. While all of Meguiar's new offerings for 2012 have been highly anticipated, one of the most talked about is their new Tire & Trim Gel, part of the Detailer Line.

Meguiar's Tire & Trim Gel is a thick, water-based dressing that restores the look to tires and trim. It is designed to apply thin and dry to the touch within minutes of being applied. Because of its thick gel formula, you don't have to worry about it slinging off.

To put Meguiar's new Tire & Trim Gel to the test, I applied it to both the tires and the trim of a Ford Expedition. If you're familiar with the Ford Expedition, you know that it's BIG and has lots of plastic trim. If not cared for using the correct products, this trim will fade and discolor in no time.

To apply the Tire & Trim Gel I used a Cobra Flex-Foam Tire Dressing Applicator. These applicators are big and easy to hold.

Meguiar's Tire & Trim Gel spreads evenly and because of its thick, gel formula, it doesn't get stuck in grooves or raised letters.

As you can see it does a great job dressing tires. It goes on thin and only required one coat to achieve the desired low-gloss look. But how well will it fare on trim?

The running boards on the Ford Expedition test vehicle hadn't been treated with any protectants in several months.

To ensure you achieve the best results from any trim protectant, make sure the surface is squeaky clean. I gave the running boards a quick cleaning with Blackfire All-N-One APC and a microfiber towel.

Using the same Cobra Flex-Foam Tire Dressing Applicator, I applied a thin, even coat of Meguiar's Tire & Trim Gel.

The directions state to wipe off any excess with a clean towel.

Meguiar's new-for-2012 Tire & Trim Gel goes on thin, dries to the touch, and leaves a slightly-glossier-than-new finish on tires and plastic exterior trim.

If you're chopping at the bit to get your hands on a bottle, it will be available very soon to order. :dblthumb2:

Thanks for the review Nick! I'm very curious about this product's durability.

Nick ... looks like another great addition. It looks more like a lotion than gel from the pics, probably the white coloring.

I wonder how it compares to Ultimate Protectant on trim?

How much more slippery was the treated side of the board? Something to really think about since you are stepping on it. Just an observation, those Pirelli tires Ford uses- they must get them for almost free.

hoping this stuff works better then the ultimate protectant/ultimate black(same product) and dont streak after a few rains

When will it be available on the site?

It's available now!

I'm thinking a comparison! :D

The running boards didn't feel slick after application, and the owner of the vehicle hasn't complained, so I think it's a-okay. I'm sure Meguiar's thought of this while developing the product, as plastic running boards are not uncommon on newer vehicles. :dblthumb2:

I don't think it's the same product. This smells very similar to D301.

Great nose Marc!

As an Expy owner, the running boards are a big deal if you slip on them. In regards to those specific Pirelli tires, they really suck on wet roads after 10K miles. I'd like to see a real test on the longevity of this product compared to others as well.

this stuff if great. I left a review under the product on the Autogeek site.

It is NOT the same product as Ultimate Protectant.

It works in very easily and is NOT slippery. so its good to use on running boards. I like it a lot. Rain doesn't seem to effect it or spot it either.

I missed the original launch of this product, but stumbled upon it while shopping. Being a Meguiar's Endurance Gel fan I decided to try it. After about a month of use on customers vehicles (tires & trim), I think it's a hit. The finish is more satin than glossy, so if I want a shine, I go back to the Endurance Gel. Ease of application is awesome, quicker and smoother than the Endurance.

Great review Nick. Kind of reminds me of the old #38 Tire and Trim Gel. I loved that stuff. I think I still have a quart in my detailing cabinet.
