First real clean-up/detail in 15yrs...

So it has been a long time and a few leases now but wanting to do a more thorough clean-up on a newer car (2020) again. My first one was back in maybe 2008 using a Zaino kit - I still found some of my old Zaino stuff as a matter of fact.

Thanks mostly to this forum, I have assembled the following and thinking to use in the following order:


For the weekend clean-up:
McKee's 7 - 290 coating prep wash
Q2M Gyeon Iron Remover
Nanoskin Clay Towel and Glide lubricant
McKee's 7 - 360 AIO Polish
PB's Black Hole Glaze (if needed)
Wolfgang Silica Spray


Maintenance Items: (for later use as needed)
Wolfgang Uber SiO2 wash
Wolfgang Tire & Wheel cleaner (plan to use it up above as well but will use it as needed on regular basis)
Meguiar's Gold Class wash
Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax Spray (currently on it right now post-purchase in March)


Car is a 2020 and relatively clean. It should not need much for decon but sat for awhile with dealer and I can tell they washed it so there are very fine micro scratches in some areas. You can see these only in very specific lighting (hold your head at this angle and move a certain way type of scratches). It is my DD but I work from home so it probably falls under the garage queen classification. It will get to experience the CO winters in a few months but that doesn't mean I'll have to drive it if weather is bad.

I will do the polishing by hand in the needed areas (hood, roof, trunk). My goal for this first one is cleaned up and protected and beating the clock with 90+ degree sun. I know there is more depth I can do by adding additional products but hoping the above will get me to the clean and protected level I am seeking - I'm not yet convinced those micro scratches will be removed since I'll be doing it by hand but not planning to go out and buy a machine.

Anything crazy here or off? Anything I will surely regret if I don't add and be buying next week anyways?

I checked into this more and messaged AG. Seems it can be applied at anytime and sealed. I'll test it first as well. However, it may not really do anything either so it's definitely one of those that can be left off.

delved into detailing activities, then IMO:
it won’t hurt to at least wait until the temp
drops to a more comfortable level (90°F
gets a whole lot hotter when attempting
polishing by hand).

-In the interim period, you have an oppor-
tunity to make arrangements to obtain an
orbital polisher—even a rather inexpensive
one from:“a place for storing a boat; a
place that’s laden with merchandise/wares”…

which is a more prudent approach to polishing…
than ever trying to polish by hand.


•Again, you say it’s been 15 yrs.
-So all of a sudden: What’s the rush?

Definitely not a rush to get back into it but want to get some better protection and I can use my garage as needed but I also plan to start early in the day ahead of the heat. The 15yr hiatus was primarily because I had leases and focused on basic maintenance vs any correction. This is not even correction so to speak as we're talking very nit picky things you only see if you're on AG reading the forums. The goal is to start fresh and know what is on it since the dealer had it for too long and definitely must have used a cheap wash method on it.

I know a true polisher is going to change the game and provide the best correction for these micro scratches. That said, it's going to be awhile until I go that path and spend the time needed to learn how to do it properly with a polisher. I expected the recommendation though after reading enough posts here on AG.

The main goal here is light correction (if any knowing it is by hand) and then protection to feel OK about it should I not get another chance before our winter hits.

a guidepost…I’m now going to steer
my dialogue towards that direction.


•IMO:
-Instead of concerning yourself with all of
the polishing and protection products that
you listed in your OP…an *All-in-One (AIO)
product would suit your main goal to a “T”.

That way:
-The acquisition of the other products (and
an orbital polisher) can be put on hold until
Springtime arrives.

Makes perfect sense. And just to be sure I was clear, everything in my OP is already owned. I had a few of them before-hand and then slowly added to my supply as I started reading AG forums a month or so ago. I kept thinking "maybe I'll want to try that and see what it does" - researched more, purchased and started down a slippery slope. I think you're right though - the next stop on that slope will be that orbital. (Springtime feels like a good target!)

Last week I took a different car in the family (2018 white paint) and did the Iron remover and uber SiO2 wash/Silica spray bath. I was pretty impressed with how well just those simple steps worked on the white.

Thanks! I've heard this suggestion around the boards. I'm just working to finish the Gold Class out. I think I only have about 1/3 of it left.
