First time single stage paint

First I give you a little info about myself. I have been obsessed with detailing cars for about 20 years ( old school). I work full time and I have been maintaining about five cars a year for the last 10-15 years. I only use a rotary for major scuffs other Thant that I have been using a gg6 ang griots products for a long time. At the beginning of this year my wife purchased a black vehicle and this purchase directed me to this site, I now know I'm not the only person that shares the same passion.

I will be doing my first single stage job and I need a little help. I need to know what I need, now I will tell you what I have. I recently purchased a rupees m2. 15. I have 6 of each foam pad ( only foam) and I have mender a 3500,3800,400, what else and how much will I need to do this job. I know I need Meg's #7. I also have good waxes, sealents, microfiber towels etc.

can anyone give me tips and product info. Should I need more pads? Can someone give me a quick link to #7 wipe down. Bye this car is a 57 Chevy bellair gold with a cream roof. Don't worry I know this person very well and he is the only person he trust with this car. After I polish is car he will probable wipe the dust off with an old shirt. Any info would be greatly appriataed.

Is the gold non metallic ? How flat is the finish,if metallic maybe mikes #7 followed by wax would be safer.sometimes on ss paint if it's real faded the metallic will lessen as you correct and leave you with a mottled look or tiger stripes.maybe Mike will chime in if he has time to advise you on the proper method .close up pics will help.

I currently have no clue what condition the paint is in or do I know if it is metal flaked. I will see this car Saturday and take pictures.

Here's the deal...



The #7 Rub Down Technique is primarily for antique and original single stage paint that is dull, chalky and oxidized.



It's for people that if it's (and this is the KEY WORD) IMPORTANT to them to do everything they can to preserve the ORIGINAL paint.

If this describes the paint and the person's intentions for the car then the #7 Rub Down Technique is for you and the car.


If the paint is shiny, then first do any paint correction you would normally do whether it's compounding and polishing or perhaps just a light polishing and THEN apply the #7 to gorge the paint with the TS oils and the seal the paint.


That is the order and correct protocol for using #7.


I see, read and meet people all the time that when working on antique single stage paint they simply attack it with compounds and polishes and never use or have even heard of #7 and the paint still comes out shiny.

Great for them but my article and my technique is simply not for them. It's a passion for perfection thing, not a what's right and what's wrong thing.

What I do know is if I have the opportunity to work on antique single stage paint on something cool the ONLY way I approach it is with #7 being a part of the process. But that's just me...

Thanks for the info mike. Once I see the car I should know condition the car is in. I know it's not original paint he said its acrylic lacquer paint that about 25-28 years old. Any particular sealent are waxes people use.
