So today, I tried out the gifts I received yesterday from Pirex and Meghan. This was used on a repainted Camry, I'll say late 90s. It's my girlfriend's mom's car. It had an awful respray, horrible orange peel all over, and there were spots on the paint that took off tiny pieces of my clay as I was claying the car. Really poor respray
.
UDM: Pretty much identical looking to the Porter Cable. It's not too heavy for me, and it doesn't vibrate too much on speed 6. The vibration doesn't bug me at all, but then I haven't used it for an extended period of time yet. I haven't had any problems accidentally bumping the switch so far, but it does feel like it can easily be switched. The pad that comes with the UDM is a nice size, and it has indented lines for the polish to go into. it's a nice pad and I'm glad it's included with the UDM.
CCS pads: I like these pads as well. Too bad they don't come in a 5.5 inch or something below 6. I haven't been able to experiment with the advantage of the CCS technology, but overall these pads are great.
Here is what I started with, white Lake Country CCS pad with XMT 1. I worked it in until it looked translucent on speed 6. It dusted a little, and had a nice working time. I'm not sure how long it took to break down, I'm guessing I took 3-5 minutes. I just worked a small section, 1 ft by 1 ft. All in all, I like this polish, had no problems. I didn't see how much it corrected though. My garage doesn't have great lighting, and I didn't have the car pulled out into the sun yet.
Here's another combo I practiced with. Boy, did XMT3 break down FAST, I was surprised. I used about a nickel size for 1 ft by 1 ft area. I did this on speed 6. I like how this broke down fast, but I haven't used it enough to comment on its correctability.
Since I was pressed for time (my girlfriend had to go home), I was only able to do one pass with each combo. I had fun practicing, and overall I liked how much correction was done. Onto the pictures!
The horrible orange peel
Polished portion of the hood
Unpolished portion of the hood
Sorry I wasn't able to take much pictures, since I was pressed for time. I enjoyed my first time on some swirl removal. I'll definitely be looking forward to do this on my Galant
I just hope next weekend will be not so busy for me. Thank you Pirex and Meghan for making this all possible!
