I bought a 9227C from ebay for $50 knowing there was a "noise" issue. I thought I'd figure out how to fix it and maybe save a few bucks over a brand new one.

I've put together a short video of what I did to fix the issue, which was the bevel gear. Also, I took the whole thing apart and found a huge wad of wool fibers in the cooling ports around the motor! Also, I repacked the little gearbox with grease cut with gear lube to thin it out a bit.

Here is the video:

Now if I could just learn how to properly use it on some paint :xyxthumbs:

Good job; I bet you had a great sense of satisfaction when it was fixed.
I am amazed a broken Makita would sell for $50.
How much did the part cost?

Well, I thought it was the spindle bearing, so that was about $10. Then I broke the housing due to improper support in press. Housing was another $10. Bevel gear was $30. Cord plug another $2.

The learning and tinkering process....priceless :xyxthumbs:

So I have $100 into a good working buffer.

That eReplacement parts place is a great source. I've used it a few times :dblthumb2:
