I have owned this for about 8 months, recently it started powering off, then it takes about 5-10 minutes before starting up, anyone else experienced this? I check the power cord...no problem...checked extension cords...no problem....and its not like I am running it high speeds for hours upon hours....could it have already worn out, I do 5-6 details a week, but dont always use the Flex...I have several machines.....any solutions?

^^^ the 3401 has overload protection and temperature monitoring. if it is overloaded or heated, the power cuts out to protect the motor. maybe a faulty module if you aren't overworking it.

also, it has "quality shut-off carbon brushes" if the carbon brushes wear down, the motor will be automatically switched off and thus protected from damage. but this i believe will not allow the machine to be restarted.

Sounds like worn brushes. Contact Flex. Maybe they'll send you a set. If not they aren't very expensive or difficult to replace.

brushes when you get new ones get 2 or 3 sets as shippng is more then 1 set of brushes.

If still under warranty you can send it to be fixed. I had these symptoms and it ended up being a circuit in the trigger(about a $26 piece). It's that or the speed dial/control, which is a $70-$80 piece. The chance of it being the brushes because they are worn after 8 months is highly unlikely. Contact Flex and or Powerhouse Tools.

It didn't wear out already, I can say that much. With the mass production of electronics these days, I'd say it wouldn't be impossible for a thermal overload component to have prematurely failed.

Have you talked to Flex yet about it.

You have a 1 year warranty. I would take it to an authorized Flex dealer and have them check out your issue and fix it for free.

I agree with shaund speed controller..
Look at solder joints poss intermittent connection..
