I don't like poo poo'ing on a product but I also think people should know the truth... and for information as to how to make the best of the product. I've owed the 4" Lake County backing plate for about a year now. I have probably used it 40 or 50 times. It is a great product except for one thing.... it will break. It might last a month, it might last 12 months but it all likelihood, it will end up braking. The weak point is where the upper/outer plate meets up with the lower/inner plate. The plastic is just not very strong and the pressure put on this area from middle screw will lead to it cracking.

Mine broke a few weeks ago and I ordered the Flex 4.5" plate... considerably more expensive. Well, what to do with the old plate. Since I use it only as a 4" plate I decided to see about just gluing the upper and lower plate. I used a 2 part epoxy, the strongest I could find. I glued the inside of the two plates and then slopped glue all around the outside. I've used it for about 3 hours since then and it seems to be working just fine. Just thought I'd share this with people who might be in the same situation.

My guess is that's why it is on clearance for $19.99

Here's my 5.5" OEM Flex plate:

I tried good ole Gorilla Glue and it lasted maybe 2 section passes more. I have used my 3401 extensively for a good 2 years so I didn't complain but am dissappointed.

I also have nothing bad to say about the Flex 3401 otherwise. The Beast is my work horse.

I’ve used mine for years and broke after about 3 years. A normal wear item in my eyes. FWIW, a detail buddy on the east coast has a tendency to over torque his and they fail within 6 months.
Also the reason the BP’s are on clearance is because the original 5” LC Hybrid has been discontinued. So if you have the 5” hybrids and want to continue to use them, I’d suggest buying a few sets.

All good. I have been thru about 4 or 5 backing plates but from Normal wear and tear. I stick with 6.5 inch pads and I feel like I have got good life with the factory BPs. I replaced all cuz the hook and loop got weak.
