Looking to get a 1-3" polisher. I've always had my eyes on the FLEX PXE 80. Also noticed they have a FLEX XFE 3" polisher. Which do you guys prefer?

What are your guys' recommended pads for the Flex 3" polishers?

Thanks!

These are really different classes of machines. The PXE is cordless and can be operated as a rotary, or DA with 3mm or 12mm orbit (or 6mm if you buy a separate attachment). The XFE 3" operates only in 12mm DA mode, but as a larger, corded tool, is going to be a lot more powerful.

I've got an old Griots GG6 and a Flex Supa Beast. The GG6 never gets used, but I'd really like to get a dedicated "mini" polisher for smaller work areas. Struggling to decide between a Griots G13 or the Flex PXE 80 (unless you recommend something else entirely). What do you recommend?

Well, the G13 is kind of in the class of the XFE 3", so the Griot's analog to the PXE 80 is the Boss Hybrid Micro Polisher.

The only feedback I can give you is I not too long ago bought an SPTA Cordless Mini Polisher, which is kind of the same idea as PXE 80 and Boss Hybrid, and I was underwhelmed by it.

If it's between the G13 and the XFE 3", I'd go with the Griot's all the way, simply due to the trigger vs. switch.

Interesting, so you would go with the G13 over the PXE as well? I just know I've been underwhelmed with the GG6 in the past which is why I went with forced rotation of the Flex. I was thinking forced rotation in a 3" would be nice, but maybe the G13 is the way to go.

Also downside of the G13 is no 1" backing plate. They do have it for the G8 though.

It really depends what you want to do, I have an old GG 3", and an old PC I use for 4" pads, so for me I wanted something for 1" and 2" pads, but the little mini machines don't have the power of the larger-frame corded machines, it's kind of borderline using them with 3" pads, at least that's my take with not much time behind the wheel of my SPTA mini.

Yea I've been using the GG6 for 4" pads. Well...maybe I'll just stick to the tried and true G8. It's relatively cheap and can do anything from 1"-3" pads.

I actually bought the SPTA mini for a specific tough-to-reach area of piano black trim on one of my cars, but I haven't gotten to use it yet for that.

I felt in DA mode in my very limited use the PXR was kinda weak. Fine in rotary mode but didn’t really want a 3” rotary. I use it with 2” and 1” pads.

Ultimately if polishing a lot I would recommend both.

I be read a lot of stalling issues with g8. If wanting to try and use all 3 sizes get the PiXiE

A rotary polisher with a 1 or 2 inch pad is a recipe for disaster

Having owned both the Flex PXE and G13, I'd go with the Flex. Both of my Griot's polishers had to be replaced and I prefer a cordless machine for 3 inches or less. The Flex has comparable power compared to the G13 but if you buy the accessory kit it really can become a jack of all trades and a master of a few. I also have the Rupes HLR75 which has a ton of power so the Flex is my 1 and 2 inch polisher and with the accessory kit I can get those hard to reach places.

Wow. I'm going to have to fool around with my SPTA mini some more...but maybe you really do get what you pay for.
Sometimes I feel like speed 3 isn't enough but 4 can be a bit of overkill. I wish there was a happy medium between those two power levels.

Does Flex make a 1-3" forced rotation corded polisher? I have the GG3 that's a rotary and I don't like it one bit.
Not that i have ever known. Would be handy.

I had bought a gg3 years ago, tried it, didnt like it, returned it and bout a flex rotary. Bought a couple shaft extentions and a 3 inch plate and pads. Then i learned the basics of rotary work with big wheels and small.

Got flex pxe80 last fall and really like it. Yes it has limitations. Only the 3 inch rotary mode and 6mm da mode is worth anything to me.

I keep trying to put the bug in Mike Phillips' ear about this, hoping Flex will get the message, they need to make a smaller form factor forced-rotation polisher, with the trigger, etc. Last time I brought it up in a thread Mike's answer was yes, Flex should do it, and if they were doing it, he wouldn't be able to say anything about it anyway. So take that for whatever it's worth.

Yeah i never could find one so I figured they didn't. I guess I'll have to start investing in Rupes... just wish they weren't so expensive.
