Time to clean up some corrosion (white rust) off of my Toyota Aluminum wheels. I'm thinking about trying out Flitz Aluminum Pre Clean. At this point, I only care about cleaning up the area of wheel which can actually be seen when looking at car, don't want to clean up anything hidden by tire....

Was planning on removing wheel, and placing flat on ground. I'm not going to remove the tires from wheel for this project, and I don't want it to accidentally harm the tire with product.

If I cover up tire completely with plastic, do you think it will be OK to use this product on wheel? Don't know what would happen to tire if product accidentally touched the rubber...

There are road salts and de-icers that are more harmful.

The strength of this product is in the arm (brush) work.

Also, I commend you for using the least aggressive first, however, IMO, too much work (with your extra steps) for end result of this product's performance.

Does this product not work very effectively? I've been looking at it for the Old Honda Dream project. VT, could you recommend something better for crusty aluminum/magnesium motor cases and air cooled cylinder fins?
 
It's a good product. Works as described. However, since it didn't dull the aluminum, I associated its power with the scrubbing...a lot of scrubbing.
EDIT: Highly recommended and reviewed by metal finishers.

Of my methods, one is caustic, and the other acidic. Both can lead to pitting. But since going immediately to either sanding or compound, then a non-issue for me.
