So I have always done it this way. I foam the car, let it soak, power wash it off (with the appropriate nozzle and distance) then hand wash and dry. I guess I find that not all the dirt comes off with just the first two steps. Should it?

Probably not without some agitation. I use a foam gun, a single wash bucket with two grit guards, and spray the entire car first, then spray every panel right before using my wash mitt. It is completely slippery and extremely lubricated. I love this method.

My method is foam let dwell.Rinse then 2 bucket wash

Nope. There is road grime (film) that will not come off via pressure washing alone.

Haven't got the foam cannon yet, but I will be getting it for my birthday this year (Aug 27th).

I am already thinking about how to use this thing...my method will be so over kill but so much fun!

I would Tornador Foam the Wheels/Tires/Wells with APC+, Foam the car with the cannon while that dwells, I'd attack the wheels, and pressure rinse! I'd foam it one more time and after that 2 bucket wash.

Its a lot of steps and definitely over kill, but I can't wait to do it!

Seems like most people do what I do. Foam, let sit, rinse, 2 bucket wash, dry. Good to know. :xyxthumbs:

Do you guys really think that foaming the car releases a layer of dirt? Does it really lessen the chance of swirling up the paint job?

Thnx!

IMO, no. But it gives extra lubrication to minimize marring using the wash mitt, I think, so that's good enough for me.

This is exactly the technique that I use.

Does it release a layer of dirt? Probably not that much.

I do feel that it provides the extra initial lubrication to help reduce swirling/marring from putting the wash element on to the paint though. That's why I like the foam gun.

My process:

Generously pressure wash (about 5-7 minutes)
Foam
Let Dwell
Generously pressure wash (about 5-7 minutes)
Foam
Let Dwell
Bucket wash
Generously pressure wash (about 5-7 minutes)
Sheet with DI water

I white out the car, and watch as the foam turns dingy as it falls to the ground, so there is some grime being released while using the foam gun. I then use two buckets, (1 guy on either side of the car) to wash the car, then pressure rinse. I wash about 35-40 cars over the weekend. The car owners love it.
