Foam Guns....pros, cons? Does it make a big difference in the quality of the wash or just cut down on time spent?

A foam gun is nice. You will definitely see a difference in time and technique, but I think it is worth it. For YOU, it all depends. Do you have a PC? Do you have a good wash mitt and towel? I think those are essential, and would be a better buy instead of a foam gun. If you have all that, and want to take washing to the next level, go for the foam gun!

I love mine! It is a great tool, but I agree with the sage advice of abrcrombe. If you don't have a PC, a good wash mitt, a Guzzler, etc. then you may want to invest in a foam gun later.

I agree with abrcrombe its all about what you need, you have to look at what you have, maybe its not a good idea to get it over a good wash mitt and a good drying towel but its all about what you want.

most like the FG for me i find it a PITA unless your a mobile detailer doing a fleet of vehicles then it may be worth having a FG to save some time..

I use mine to presoak a car.

the foam gun is definitely a useful tool...i was a die hard 2 bucket wash fan for a long time but after discovering the foam gun i never really bring out the bucket anymore. i am on my second foam gun after i sold my old one to a customer of mine....is it necessary to have one? the answer is no. its a matter of personal preference...i feel it cuts down my wash time and gets more cleaning product where i need it. it can even be used to fill up with an apc and it is nice to foam the entire under body and wheel wells and then begin washing while the apc foam does its thing. there is no grit to worry about in a bucket and after foaming down the entire car i use the foam gun as a lead spray as i follow with a wash mitt...there is even a video on AG main site showing a guy doing this and i thought that was my own personal style that no one else did :)

How about when your washing outside in direct sunlight and its hot. Is it more troublesome to use it then?

Just make sure u never let the soap dry on your vehicle. I don't have a foam gun, but if it was me in direct sunlight, i'd foam one section of a car at a time just to be safe. Foam one section, then rinse off, then go to the next section.

ive been thinking about getting one, however with a nice shampoo, eg duragloss, poorboys, pinnacle, nxt.. and the Schmitt,

I dont know if you could even get a better wash. Most customers weve had at work like seeing the hand wash moreso than a foam gun.

this is when i prefer to use the foam gun...

1. pre-foam the entire car...
2. wipe a panel down while foaming it
3. move the adjuster tab over to water only and rinse the panel i just washed
4. continue on to the next panel and foam any part of the car that looks like it is about to dry out

I foam the car, then rinse it all, then foam a section at a time and use the schmitt was mitt to do each section and rinse the mitt with the 2 bucket method. Then rinse the whole thing again (and may foam again just to get rid of all the soap in the canister), sheet and wash with a guzzler. Very very safe way to wash. I have let the end of the car sit in the sun when washing and it hasn't really been an issue. Just like hand washing, you don't want to let it sit so long the soap dries. But......yes, the foam gun is worth it. I love that thing.

doesnt matter which foam gun they sell on ag...all the same except what devcal is on them...the quart size is more than large enough unless you detail multiple cars at once.

Yup, they are all the same except for the sticker. But if you pay attention when a product line is on sale, the associated foam gun is too. I got my foam gun last month while AG had Wolfgang on sale, and I got the Woldgang foam gun for cheaper than the rest.
