So a month or so ago, I was in a small collision where the guy for some unknown reason, put his car in reverse at a stop sign and backed into my bumper, I went through his insurance and he took responsibility. I remember having seen horror threads where the bodyshop either could not match the paint, and/or left the finish filled with hollograms and wet sand marks.

So I did alot of searching and came across Philip Thearle's Autowerks.

I decided to check the shop out, I took a tour of the facility and I was very impressed. I even got a peek at their buffers and pads. They used rotaries and their wool pads were CLEAN! Thats right, clean buffer pads. The place was very clean and I asked many questions and was satisfied with the answers I recieved.

So I left it with them. They replaced the bumper and painted it with out blending into any panels. Got it back and I was honestly shocked at how good it looked. I knew what to look for in bad paint jobs and I could find nothing to critique.

Fast forward to now, I decided to finally opti-coat it(he said they baked it, but I figured waiting another month couldnt hurt). Here it is after stripping the wax and a light clay job, I have done NOTHING but strip the paint.

I couldnt believe it. They did it absolutely right and perfect the first time. Zero swirls and zero hollograms. This is also reasurring for me because I have sinse washed the panel four times and this shows that my wash method is spot on for not inflicting marring. I wouldn't hesitate to bring my car back to them for work. I highly recommend them!

Hey Jacob

first off
Glad everything went smoothly and you are satisfied with the results

however, due to your title, "for those who fear bodyshops" I assume you wanted to "ease" our fears and say to trust bodyshops but wouldn't the easing of fear only pertain to your shop/experience? I am sure there are still other bodyshops that do crappy job and earned bodyshops the bad rep to begin with, so really it is for locals in your area and you recommend them that they did a good job...right?

By the way, that does look fantastic (as I saw the damage before hand) looks brand new like it came off the lot...actually if it came off the lot it might have some swirls, so it looks better actually

I see what you are saying. Yeah, not a good thread title. I guess what I was trying to imply is that not all bodyshops are incompetent, and that there are shops who have the ability to satisfy us autogeeks who have rediculously high standards. Maybe I got lucky, who knows. All I can say is I had a very good experience.

Just trying to show that it is possible to get good results through insurance work. :)

Glad they did it right...last time I got mine back it looked like they dried it with a towel they wipe the floor with...scratches everywhere.

It's great that you are posting a positive experience. We only hear about the negative ones.

I write Yahoo and Yelp reviews whenever a business has exceeded my expectations.

After I finally found a GREAT paint and body shop near me in West Los Angeles the city of Los Angeles closed them down for a light rail right of way.
And to add insult to injury would not renew their pollution abatement offset.
So they are moving to Gardena, about 18 miles away.

Jacob,

If more people did a little homework up front there would be a lot more satisfied customers and fewer complaints....

Beautiful results and one quality job....:props:

Your due diligence in doing your homework paid off.

Well said, guys!
There are just so many ways to check out a business these day, that you would be a fool not to.
Work looks top notch!

There are good guys out there, good job doing your homework and not going with just any shop!
