Ford Five Hundred to become ‘Taurus’

At least GM is doing a great job with Caddy, their CTS, they nailed that niche. People wanted a sport yet comfortable sedan, and they nailed it. And they gave it options of auto and manual trans with the V6 versions, and then came out with the V series only available in manual trans form. I just saw the new 08' model online and it looks mean, little edgier witha sweet interior, and if the rumors of the next V are true (LS7 engine) that car will stomp on the E60 M5. That's the big difference, Caddy gave their buyers exactly what they wanted and even kept the bloated DTS for the older Towncar type buyers. Now GM needs to apply that concept to the rest of their brands, and Ford needs to take a hint.
Hehe, I was raised differently around cars, I'll daily drive a Cobra replica and could careless lol. Friend just drove their ACR Viper down from Kentucky, which has a Moton racing suspension, that's what, 1300 miles? Most people wouldn't last 30 minutes, yet we do lol.

To each his own. I think the new caddy's look like crap. I wouldn't buy one even if it did perform. Caddy's use to look like something special. I think a vette's one of the few GM cars makes that does really look good. I do like the vette but a freind of my wife has a 2006 vette and has had to take it back to the dealer more times then my 1985 Vette has been to the dealer in 22 years. Their quality has continued to go down also. Apparently a lot of people agree. Every year their market share is going down. GM's bigest shareholder did not have much faith in the company's turn around and dumped all his stock last year. With a $3.2 billion second-quarter loss, a 115 million third quarter loss, a who knows what the 2006 4th quarter loss will be and a cut by 50% in their dividends I glad I'm not a GM stockholder. I think they also had something like a $10.6 billion loss in 2005. It's going to take a lot more then a 100,000 warrenty to get people to buy their cars again.

Both GM and Ford really need to get their act together. I'm from the Detroit area and I have a lot of ties to the US auto industry. I certainly hope they can get it together. They have a long way to go.

My father in law would probably agree. He has a 2005 Corvette and had to have the drivers seat fixed after less than a year because it was wearing through the vinyl. Now a year after that it's going bad again. I don't think he's had any mechanical issues though.

I also have to say GM did another stupid thing in killing one of their best cars in the Bonneville. Pontiac will probably be the next division they run into the ground.

I thought they had big hopes for pontiac? The new G8 is coming out. All that work with the G6 hardtop convertible. I don't remember, but I thought they were making another GTO also!

Well I thought Ford auctioned off AM Louis Vuitton buys Aston Martin - Luxist

but then saw this lol:

The Solstice is doing decently, the other cars are flopping and aren't as in demand as they hoped including the G6, GTO sales tanked. The old Bonneville just couldn't compete, it was like an 2006 car with an interior from 1995, nowhere even close to an Acura TL, or even Accord etc. And it slacked in performance.

The Solstice is a nice looking car. In all the comparisons I have seen everyone rated the Mazda Miata better in every category and it was cheaper. I do think the Solstice looks better. The new Ford Taurus/old Ford 500 has no appeal to me at all. I can't believe people are going to buy it just because they change the name. They really need to change the car.

I happen to like the Solstice, I agree it looks better. What I really like is that the engine bay take LS engine swaps, I would love one with a swapped LS7 and 6 speed manual, god that'd be ripping car on the street and track.

More the anything I just wish they'd make suv's with diesels here, a full size Suburban with teh Duramax would be perfect, comfort, towing ability etc, plus excellent gas mileage and power. Jeep has a diesel in the Grand Cherokee now but I don't like the looks of the new generation.
