I've been reading up on trim restoration and protection products for my LR3 cowl. Most of my trim looks ok, but the cowling is badly faded and I'm trying to figure out what to use. Several good options, but it will cost me $30-50 to try one of the better products and likely as much if I try a 2-3 cheaper products. I could just get Dlux ($40), or a dye and coat with Dlux ($60).

I can order a new cowl for $70 delivered. Hence the forehead slap. Wish I could get back all the time I spent reading about products.

I did learn that Megs Paint Protectant seems to be a good, inexpensive trim sealant. For what it costs I'm going to give it a try on the rest of my trim.

Solution Finish and close the thread. Amazing product and easy to use.

I would have went with DLux but that's just me. Both would work great, but DLux would give far longer protection.

^^^ I get it, and no doubt Dlux is great. But at $40 for a small bottle how much do I money + time do I spend restoring an old part when a new one is so inexpensive?

Solution Finish followed by DLux is the best way to preserve the look and not have to redo the trim for a long while.

Not doubting you, but $70 shipped for a complete wiper cowl assembly seems awfully cheap.

Actually yeah I would just buy a new one, coat it with DLux and let it sit overnight. Done, and only 110 bucks too.

Funny that Megs PP365 was mentioned.....I'm not a fan for intended use on paint. I have found it finicky and just kinda a PITA to use. BUT.....It works AWESOME on trim. I did a test area on my F150 bed rail caps when it was first released just to see how it would work on trim...still has a good dark gloss to it today! I bought several bottles that were on clearance for $3, my go to trim dressing now.

Yep, and I don't have it yet. So maybe BS. But eBay can deliver sometimes. Worst case it's $110 delivered from a source that seems to sell a lot of them. Will give SF a try and then a coating if it looks good. For what a new one costs it's not worth much effort.

Also, be careful what you wish for replacing the cowling. Depending on what kind of car it is, it can be an F'ing nightmare.

Land Rover LR3. Could not be simpler to replace. Maybe some risk removing the wiper arms if they're stuck, but a little care and I'm sure they'd be fine. The rest of it my kids could do. Not that I would let them, but they probably could.
