I know I've seen other suppliers do this, off the top of my head, I'm think bodybuilding.com. They have forum/member voted on "Products of the year". Is this something AG would consider? This would be great to see, as we get so many repetitive questions on the forums of "what's best for this....etc." Plus it would give AG great exposure in the market, as a "go to" for awards for manufacturers! :dblthumb2:
The winning product doesn't have to be released that year, just whatever product is voted wins. Then eventually some products could be marketed by AG and manufacturers as "Winner X years in a row for top.....by AGO!". You get the idea.
I'm thinking along the lines of:

Top wax for durability
Top concourse wax
Top wax for light colors
Top wax for dark colors
Top Paint Sealant
Top APC
Top Tire Shine Product
and so on and so on...........

Detailing World does exactly this - they have awards, in various categories, which are nominated and then voted on by forum members. The manufacturers seem to think they're worth something, too - I've seen a few banners displaying the Detailing World awards which they've won.

However, I'm not sure AG will be as... supportive of this. You have to remember that AG is, after all, a multi-brand seller, and would not want to promote certain products too much - it might negatively affect the sales of other products, and they'll be left with a bunch of items sitting in their warehouse.

Menzerna Power Lock - Sealant
Meguiar's APC - All Purpose Cleaner
Speedy Prep Towel - Clay

(For Starters) :)

Ahhhh, yes...we wouldn't want to negatively effect the sales of the non-winners while promoting the sale of the award winners. Taking away from Peter to pay Paul has never been good for any business.

This type of thing only works in a scenario who's sponsors have no financial interest in the results.

Besides, who would spend the time on these forums to shop for products if you only had to read one thread and just buy the award winning products? Think about it

Nice idea otherwise.

Yep - as a seller, promoting one product over another, even if indirectly, would not be beneficial to their manufacturer relationships. Doesn't mean I don't like the idea, but I'd be surprised if AG were to officially endorse it.

I see everyone's point, but like my original sample bodybuilding.com has a huge store with house brands and other vendors, yet they're well known for their manufacturer awards. They have financial stake, and if the non winners want some recognition, then they better get active on the forums and with AG to participate with us to find out why and what they need to do better. As far as promoting goes, after the awards are given, it's more on the manufacturer to promote the award on product they won.

Also, my other thought is it would bring more business to AGO. Not everyone wants to get on the forums with a bunch of strangers, and post noob questions. For those people, if they see the awards and which products won, they would be more apt to click and buy as all the information they want is right there and easy to find! This is the reason I started buying from bodybuilding.com, their awards for protein and multivits were easy to find and follow, so I bought from them and have been a loyal customer since. Like AGO, their customer service is almost unmatched.

I was just thinking of ways to help new members out, bring some recognition to AGO, and keep the forums fresh. You know the "win win win" scenario.

I like your idea:

Meguiar's no. 7 - Glaze

Just a thought, since this is aimed at new comers. I don't think abbreviations should be used. Just my opinion.

because I don't know what FG400 is?

Nu finish +10000

I like this IDEA: combining Weights and Detailing!

Here are some "Heavy Hitters" that receives a lot of attention on the AGO forum...
Are they: Voted Top Favorites? :dunno:

If you will...(Allowing me to paraphrase):

"There is no secret cure to being weak, but these Heavy Hitters will easily: "Perform the tasks at hand"!!!

Good Luck, OP, on your: "Poll of Favorites"

:)

Would this be for only new products, like the idea for sure. How about forum member of the year too?

It'd be great to get AG behind this, but if they won't, then I could ask permission to do this at the end of the year. We can do a poll for each category, and then post the results.

Detailing world does exactly this for various categories... Best shampoo, best lsp, and various other categories. I think its a great idea to have our opinion being heard. This is actually one of the ways that I found out about certain products that a lot of us really like.

I prefer to read product reviews because every car is different and unless you know all the small details of how the reviewer came up with his/her result, good or bad...and you just go by the results of a poll, speaking only for myself, a poll isn't likely to get me to open my wallet.

A lot depends on how the question is framed as well. A " best wax " poll doesn't tell me anything. A "favorite " detail spray" poll again, tells me nothing.

For newbies I will agree there may be some merit to it, but once you start buying products based on what's popular you will find out that you end up with boxes of unused products sitting in your basement.
