Hey guys, I have a quick question. Many of the mobile detailers around my town have "fully licensed and insured" on their websites. This sounds really good, but I'm left wondering what exactly the licensed part means. The state of Texas does not have a General business license.

Anyone know what they mean by this? I would like to use this as I think it makes you sound legit. I'm a sole proprietorship and currently looking into insurance.

You will get your business license from the city in which you work in. Not the State. Check with your County trustee

I don't think we have license here in Illinois either not for painting contractors at least.

Yea, your license should be from the city. You need a permit to officially do business in any city I would think. Most of the time it's pretty simple, just registering your business name and service on their books. Only a $10 fee for me. It does keep someone else from operating a business under the same name though.

You can add another level of coverage by being bonded as well...its called a surety bond and protects your clients in the event you fail to meet your obligation to complete a job. Its common in the construction industry. Many cities and town will not "license you" to work in their town without liability insurance and a bond.

Before we opened our fixed location we ran a mobile detailing business. To be legal, we had to get a license in every city we did business in. That meant we purchase a license in 8 different city's at $60.00 in each city.
