Greetings!

About a week back, as I was on my way to work, my TPS light came on. I pulled into the nearest gas station and found a nail in my rear passenger side tire. After inflating, I drove down to my dealership to fix the problem. Okay, so far so good.

I was running a little late and asked if they could shuttle me to work. Not a problem. Got to work and got a call three hours later (they were really backed up) saying the tire can be patched. Great news I thought!

BUT....I forgot to tell them not to wash my car. Imagine my horror when I picked up my car later on that day to see my car covered with SWIRLS! ARRRGH! And I had just polished out the swirls only a few days before!

As soon as the weather warms up I'll have to re-polish and re-apply my LSP. No way in heck I'm gonna let those yahoos touch my finish!

Grrrrr! All that polishing for nothing! And all because I forgot to tell my service advisor one very important thing. Lesson learned.

At the very least at least my car got cleaned. And they vacuumed the interior, which was about the only positive out of this whole experience.

Just wanted to share. What horror stories do you guys have?

Happy Detailing, everyone!

Well...I try to take tire problems to a tire shop, not the dealer. Tire shops don't feel the need to do "courtesy" washes (unless they have an attached scratch n' swirl). Sorry this happened to you.

I had my van at the dealer a few weeks back for a warranty/recall repair. Same as you, I had previously polished and waxed it. Someone apparently set a small cardboard box or something similar on the hood, and of course it slid all the way from near the windshield cowling down to the front edge, leaving a wide trail of light scratches the whole way. The scratches really stood out against the swirl free hood, and I ended up polishing the entire hood again. Fortunately for me it was only the hood!

Lots of folks probably have "horror stories." How about something useful to avoid the situation in the future? In addition to letting the service manager know not to have the car washed, I put a "do not wash car" note on the steering wheel.

Next time I have a tire problem, I'll take it to the nearest Firestone. Another lesson learned. The only reason I took it to the dealership was because they had a free shuttle service.

Yikes, that has happened to my wife before. Took place at a supermarket parking lot. Someone put a bag of groceries on her trunk, and instead of lifting it up, they just dragged it across!

Guess I'll have to invest in Wolf's 'Hard Body'. It's 60 bucks a bottle, which is a little steep, but cheap insurance against any future scratches.

As they say, hindsight is 20/20. I'll leave a standing order with my service writer: Please do not wash.

Seriously... I feel your pain...

:D

LOL!

Ooops! In my original post I typed in 'TPS' light. What I meant was 'TPMS' light. My bad!
