G21 - Possible to use 5-inch backing plate?

I had a problem with my G15 and sent back to GG for warranty. No replacement for them at this time so I was shipped a G21 as replacement. Okay this is the former G21 so let's not get excited.

I like keeping things simple and use the 5-in on my G6 and now the G9 DAs. Can I swap the G21 over to a 5-inch instead of the 6-inch it comes with and what are the negatives of doing this?

Absolutely. I had the 5" backing plate on my G21. It's a beast set up like that. Griot's actually promotes this
