Which MF towel is best for this method? I'd be using just one side of the MF towel so it would always be soapy. Ok..ok.. Have black car and really don't like the idea of using all sides. I know I'll be using lots of towels. -:(

I personally wouldn't use anything less than 400gsm. I use about 8-10 for a sedan and a separate 3-4 for wheels.

I don't understand why this is called the 'Garry Dean wash method'...?

These products weren't around 40 years ago, but people have been doing these types of washes with water since at least when my father was younger. Safer nowadays with nice towels and better products? Of course, but the idea is the same.

Maybe I'm alone on this.

:iagree:Using 600 gram towels is overkill.

Please identify a detailing practice described on AGO that would not be considered overkill by most standards. :)

I use 360s for rinseless and 530s for waterless. Technique is far more important than towel weight when doing these washes.

I would mostly be doing 2 BM and want to use MF towels.
Does this still apply? Thanks

I thought this thread was about the GD method?

Oops... I meant using one bucket with car soap and water using
the Garry Dean method .. Not rinseless or waterless.

In his "perfect wash" YouTube video he uses 600 gsm green 16x16 towels for the one bucket, pressure washer, and foam cannon wash. AG doesn't sell those. They're the same towels as the grey and red border towels AG sells as chinchillas I believe, just different color and the green ones have a MF border while the grey color version has red silk border. I have both.

I suppose I should have been more to the point at hand. I would consider the Garry Dean one bucket method to be very similar to a rinseless wash.

My intent was to note that you can work safely with a lower weight towel or swirl a perfect finish with a higher weight towel. It's very dependent on your technique, i.e. How many towels, how mush pressure you use, how saturated your towels are and how often you switch to a new side of the towel.

You should probably use actual rinseless wash vs. regular car soap. Regular car wash soap will probably leave a residue. Rinseless washes come off very clean. They typically don't foam but rather provide lubricity and ability to encapsulate dirt. As for towels, I use 530's.
