For personal, non-commercial use should I stay with the 6" BP or go to 5" for more power?

I would go with the 5” BP and use 5.5” pads.

I tried using 6” pads with my mt300 when I got it because I just happened to get a kit that came with them.

Swapping to 5” pads felt a lot better. For awhile I kept thinking “how big of a difference could it really make”, but it’s pretty noticeable.

Going from a 6” pad to a 5” pad reduces the surface area by ~30.5% (if my math is right, anyway.)

sounds like a plan, I was leaning that way but was still a good bit unsure. thank you. Now I just need to decide on pads lol

There’s lots of great choices, I personally use the meguiars foam discs because I just like the simplicity of their only being 3 different pads. Their burgundy cutting disc is amazing.

I’m also not doing this for a living (though I have done some cars occasionally for money) so my needs are different than other peoples.

Any of the brands AG carries, so long as you grab the thin pads, will likely be more than suitable for your needs.

5" for sure.

I thought using 6" might benefit me with the large panels on my Ram when I first started polishing. Not so.

I'm not going into BP/pad choice, as there are a million opinions. But you will be much happier with the 5" setup.

You will get better rotation with thinner pads. The BOSS pads already mentioned are a good choice.

Well I found a Meg's 5" BP in the bottom of my carry bag of tools!!!! It's not vented though.

That's fine. I have the same BP.

Great product. Just work smart (Do not use too much product to saturate the pad, change the pad often, and have fun!)

I got some LC thin pro pads for my grandson and they work great with his Griots 5" backing plate...
