Some of you may remember that I recently posted about an issue I had with a recently acquired Lake Country Changeable Backing Plate System for the Flex 3401 VRG. That post was quickly replied to by Eric from Lake Country, and he requested that I contact him directly about my issue. I quickly sent an email to Eric, mentioning I had already contacted Autopia about it, and he stepped up big time by sending me not one, but two replacements (one to keep as a spare in the unlikely event that something goes wrong).

The next day, I received a replacement backing plate system from Autopia, and my immediate thought was that Eric had decided to just have a single replacement sent overnight instead of sending two by ground. That works for me, I was just happy to have a replacement, and thought nothing more of it.

Well, Friday rolls around and the UPS guy shows up with a few packages I had been expecting. As I'm later going through and opening my packages, I find that one of them contains two backing plate systems... it's from Lake Country. I was thinking "Great, the guy from Lake Country is going to think that I scammed him!", so I immediately emailed Eric, explained what happened, and asked how I could make things right. He replies and tells me to just keep them for all of my troubles, but I just don't feel right about that...

So, I have decided to give one away!!

http://www.autogeek.net/flex-xc3401-backing-plates.html

The rules are simple, reply to this post by midnight Friday (Autogeek local time) with your answer to the following trivia question:
What year did Lake Country Manufacturing open?

On Friday, one winner will be selected at random from all of the correct answers.

The backing plate system will be shipped out to the winner on Monday via Priority Mail.

Note: This giveaway is only open to US residents since I'll be the one footing the shipping...

Good luck!!

What a nice guy... both you and Eric!

To everyone reading this, if you have a Flex 3401 then... ENTER!

I love the 4" backing plate on the Flex 3401 with the 5" Hybrid pads and the factory backing plate is great for all the 6.5" pads available for working larger panels. This makes your Flex 3401 a very versatile tool. Nothing wrong with the 6" backing plate that comes in the kit either if you're the type that like "full backing support" on your larger pads.

Lake Country Manufacturing was established in 1977 as its own name after being bought out by Jim Schneider. The company was formally known as Milwaukee Tanning run by the Koenchild family

Just send it know, Mike is the winner. Ding ding.

Smack is correct about the date (1977) and the other facts. The company was already almost 100 years old when he purchased it. I have debated about buying the changeable backing system for months so this would make the decision a non-decision. Thanks for your generosity to the folks on this forum.

So should this be considered an entry?

Eric at Lake Country is the one who deserves all the thanks!

I won't say if its a correct answer or not until after the entry period has closed. It's not the first right answer that wins. The winner is chosen at random from all of the correct answers submitted.

My guess is 1977. Did not know it was the first person that guessed, sorry did not see that part.

Im in! My guess would also be 1977. Hope I win my 3401 could use some new BP's.

Per LCM's website,

In 1977, Jim Schneider purchased the former Milwaukee Tanning company from the Koenchild family and changed the name to Lake Country Manufacturing. Milwaukee Tanning was established in 1883 by the Koenchild family and manufactured 4 main lines of goods: sheepskin apparel, powder puffs, leather dice cups and sheepskin buffing pads. During the first decade of ownership, Jim slowly sold off the other three portions of the company to focus solely on the automotive buffing industry. We moved into our current manufacturing facility in 1989.

From Lake Country's site

Over the past 30 plus years Lake Country Manufacturing has grown to offer a full line of professional buffing and polishing products for the automotive, marine, aviation and composite industries. Our products are now offered in over 50 countries worldwide. Along with our focus on product development, Lake Country Manufacturing continues to invest in upgrading and automating our manufacturing operations."

I won't pretend to know without doing research.

1977 as mentioned, per google search.

Good luck all, especially me.

I applaud all your efforts, but I think it's kinda funny that, in a giveaway where the more people that enter, the lower your odds are, everyone is not only posting what they think the answer is, but where they found it! I think it shows the true sense of community here on AG where nobody worries that somebody may copy what they post.

Looks like great timing for this giveaway too with the current Flex sale... Maybe I'll give away my spare to someone who purchases one of the Flex 3401 kits that are part of the "4th of July / Mike Phillips Anniversary sale" (and can prove it), and enters the giveaway with a correct answer... That's right, TWO backing plate system giveaways!!

Very nice thing of you to do Eric!

Kudos Eric!
