Can someone explain to me when you need to use Glaze, Seal or wax ??? I have a black 2011 Nissan Murano

I usually do the following:

wash ( foam gun and 2 buckets)
dry using either towels or air
depending on paint i will either compound and polish or just polish
spray wax to finish it off

I have never used a glaze or a sealant. I find that after i polish with machine and i use a spray wax to get any polish dust off car looks great..

Are you working on customer cars or just your own?

Glazes are more of a throwback to single-stage paint, although there are a few "modern" glazes.

Since "wax" is kind of a generic term, it may be that the spray "wax" you are using is actually a sealant.

Are you happy with the results,if so keep that process if you like.a glaze will deepen the paint but deosnt last long.a typical good sealant will last 4 to 6 months.your spraywax protection is only good as your last carwash.I would prefer a sealant, more work but it's worth it.

A glaze as some fillers in it to basically hide small defect in the paint. I'd say, since you are polishing, no need for a glaze. I will use a glaze when I can't or don't feel like polishing.
Sealants are pretty much man made waxes. They are synthetic and last longer than wax. I usually apply a sealant and then top it with a wax. Some will say that a sealant and a wax wont layer but that is a debate that will most likely last forever.

If you use a glaze you will have to top it off with a wax or a sealant. As for a spray wax IMO the longevity is not there. The glaze IMO would not be an important part of the detail process, however, the sealant or wax (not a spray wax) would be. I would use the spray wax as a quick detail touch up after the next wash. But like GSKR said if you are happy with your results then keep on truckin! If you so desire to experiment a little, I would look into a sealant or a liquid/paste wax or applying a sealant topped of with a wax (I do it that way). Please show pics of your ride!!

thanks guys.. I am going to try the sealant and see how it goes.

I do have a question.. i can use a machine to apply the sealant, do i wait 20 mins then remove the sealant or leave it for 12 hours on then wipe off ?

Generally you wipe off the sealant after a few minutes. I usually do a quarter or half of the car and remove it, repeat with the rest of the car.

Read the instructions from the manufacturer of the bottle of sealant you are going to get. it's usually between 10 and 30 minutes.

What RD said. Each product is different.

Then their is always the "Mike Phillips" Swipe Test too.

This is Wolfgang 3.0 Instructions. Note the 30-45 minutes before wipe off of this particular product and the "cure time".

Best advice as noted is to refer to the instructions on each individual product.

Directions:
1. Wash your vehicle using Wolfgang Auto Bathe or your favorite shampoo. Dry completely.
2. For the best results, use a paint cleanser like Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer to remove mild imperfections and wax build-up.
3. Apply Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 over the entire vehicle either by hand or with a machine. If applying by hand, use a yellow foam applicator. If applying by machine, use a blue finessing pad. Using a dual action polisher, set the maximum speed to 4.5 and work in overlapping sections until the entire vehicle is covered. Apply a very thin, even coat.
4. Once the vehicle is covered, wait 30-45 minutes before buffing off the sealant. Use a microfiber towel or a microfiber bonnet on your polisher.
5. This product is moisture-sensitive. In order to achieve a slick, durable finish, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 must cure for at least 12 hours before being exposed to moisture. Do not apply sealant before dusk because dew will interfere with the adhesion to the paint. Park your vehicle in a garage or under a shelter while it is curing, if possible.

What I do on my car is if it needs a polish I polish, if it doesn't I dont. Either way, the next step is glaze to bring out the depth of the color, then I wax for the shine, then I seal.

Their are so many great products available on AG these days that give you amazing depth, wetness, shine and durability. I personally rarely do more than one LSP. I had in the past done a sealant then a high end wax and may still in some cases but with the excellent sealants available these days I personally don't see the need. And if you've polished you car their is really no need for a glaze as it's more for filling and masking defects. I would prefer to have my sealant bonding directly to the fresh clean paint surface than to a "glaze". As easy as most sealants are to machine apply and remove you could always do 2 coats of sealants for added depth and protection.

We all have our favorite sealants.

I have these and love all of them.

Thanks all for the comments. We garage our car where I live so it should not be an issue. After I apply sealant can I use super suds wash on the car following week if needed?

Paint sealant especially WG 3.0 shouldn't be a problem at all. Unless you're talking about purple power suds? I have two foam pads dedicated for WG 3.0 because not even tide can we remove the leftover sealant from these two pads.

I stick my pads in my he washer and have never had an issue removing WG 3.0 or any other sealant. They come out like new. I use the 3D Microfiber wash, about 1 oz.

If you want an easy application with a sealant, go with one of the spray ones. They are very quick and easy and still offer great protection.

Opti-Seal, Rupes P808, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Liquid Seal, BLACKFIRE Crystal Seal...

Well choke my chicken.... View attachment 50393 I've, been using 3-D for months now for MF towels. I never thought about pads.... Thank you II'll give it a try this weekend.

If you apply a sealant over a carnauba wax, will the sealant adhere? I thought that a sealant should be applied first to clean paint and then layer a carnauba wax on top.

None of the above if you buy Blackfire Crystal Seal. It goes on like a spray wax but even easier and requires no wait / wipe off. Look into it - easiest thing on the market to use.

Or you can try Meguires #21 Sealant and get the benefits of a glaze and sealant in one application.
