I tried EAC to do so, but I cannot, for the life of me get it to rip in FLAC format, only WAV.

There anything else out there?

My all time favorite program for ripping, in general and especially for .flac, is grip for Linux. I have ripped my 200 CD collection to .flac this way and it worked fabulous! Now, I just need to rebuild my media server after the move (gotta find the hard drive first).

In the interim, I did have to load some music for Santa's gift to one of the girls. W/o my Linux boxes up, I downloaded FreeRIP for windows. It works good. Just not as good as grip.

I, however, am unfamiliar w/ the workings of EAC.

I know this may sound stupid but what is FLAC? From what I gather it's a media format of sort but I have never heard of nor used it. Can someone explain please?

Thanks in advance.

This is from Wikipedia.
"Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) is an audio compression codec primarily authored by Josh Coalson and Ed Whitney. FLAC employs a lossless data compression algorithm; a digital audio recording compressed by FLAC can be decompressed into an identical copy of the original audio data. Audio sources encoded to FLAC are typically reduced to 50–60% of their original size"

Basically in layman's terms... Its an un-compressed audio format. Whenever I can find FLAC downloads I get them because they sound incredible compared to .mp3, .wav, etc. Problem is, FLAC files are generally 30-40mb per 3-4 min song.

Very cool, I will keep it in mind next time. Thanks for explaining it.

dBpoweramp
EAC

Those are the best two I have found to date.
