Can anyone recommend a good random orbital buffer that won't break the bank? I've seen some that are $25.00 and some that are $400.00. I am not fanatical about detailing but want to do a good job buffing wax and sealants. Will any of the lower priced ones do the job?

Thanks,

Mike

Do you have a harbor freight near you? They have a DA polisher you can get for a great price that way you can do more than just waxing without breaking the bank

You have to get at least a PC, Meg's, Griots are Harbor Freight buffer. Some of them will require you to spend about $15 more for a decent backing plate. Anything cheaper than those 4 is pretty much worthless for correcting paint.

Another alternative is the 3D buffer. This is similar (same?) as the HF unit. They were offering a pretty nice $99 package recently that included some pads.

Out of all of these, most people (me included) will tell you the Griots is your best bet. Its the most powerful, which means its the most versatile. Also, it comes with a REAL no BS lifetime warranty.

No doubt the Griots is the best for DA for the weekend detailer--as mentioned it has the most power and a lifttime warranty.

However, if $$$ are a consideration the HF DA will be fine as long as you replace the backing plate with a quality 5" one. See this thread above for more information:

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...ers/55905-harbor-freight-da-polisher-new.html You can buy a 2 year replacement warranty for the HF for about $10

I would suggest you put together the things you need on your own rather than buying a kit -- you will get what you need and what you want without things you won't use.

I really like the GG 6"; It will turn 6.5" pads with no trouble for large vehicles. It has a life time warranty and comes with a 6" plate. I use it with a 5" plate for 5.5 inch pads which are my favorite and a 3.5" plat for 4" pads for small areas. The unit is a little more expensive than the PC, but the versatility and life time warranty make it worth saving up for. I almost bought a cheaper unit, but as time went by I started wanting to do more and more. I am very happy I bought the GG it lets me do anything I want.
