What is a good starter digital camera that i can upgrade later i want to get into digal photogrophy. What would be a good start lens and where would be the best place to get one new or used.

Thanks

Most of the cheaper starter digital cameras are not very upgradable. About the only thing you can upgrade is the memory card. A digital SLR is nice and the most upgradable but they are expensive. I always price major purchases locally and online once I decide exactly what I want to get. Usually I can find it cheaper online. At lot of times its out of state and they don't charge sales tax which help make up for the shipping cost. I got my camera out of a large camera shop out of New York City. It way cheaper there then I could buy it locally.

My wife likes the cannon rebel. She bought it several years ago when they first came out, I think they have a couple of newer models now days. You can start out with the lens it came with and pretty much go anywhere up from there.

I use a Panasonic Lumix (DMC-LZ3). It retailed for 289.00 but I found it at Wal-Mart for 149.00........cheap! They have a glass case there were the cameras are. This is where they keep their open boxed demo cameras. You'll find some nice deals there. Find one that a built in rechargeable battery if you can.

Ive got the Rebel XT, its a 8mp digital SLR. Only thing youd be upgrading is your lenses. The kit lens is is a good starter lens. What are you going to be taking pictures of?

If I was going to buy a used one I would look on ebay. Just make sure the seller has very good feedback.

I have purchased some expensive items on ebay but only from people with a lot of good positive feedback. If you pay with paypal or with a credit card you have some protection.

i got my xt off ebay....if they have good feedback than you should be ok

Established sellers should not be a big problem.

$2-300 = non-slr, which if you are fine with, means you can still get a great camera. If you want to spend a little more, check out these three.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8
Canon PowerShot S3 IS(my personal camera, Love It!, especially the super macro!)
Fujifilm FinePix S9100

They have too much info over there.

I bought a Minolta Diamage Z20 a while back and luv it. What I really like is the 10:1 optical zoom. Check out the net. Do a Google search for "digital cameras reviews". There is a TON of information out there. Before you buy from the internet, be sure it has a USA warranty. Don't get caught in the "grey goods" senario.

If you live in colder climates, and I would get a camera that can work off rechargeable, as well as regular alkaline, or lithium batteries. As temperature goes below 32 degrees, batteries start to feel week, even if fully charged. Even alkaline. You wont have that problem with lithium batteries though.

I think I would go for a last years model camera on the cheap. I have last years model of the FZ8 (FZ7) that BetaB mentioned and I really like it a lot.

I bought my girl friend the Panasonic Lumnix DMC-FX01. Its a great camera, really easy to use and has adjustable settings such as shutter, ISO, white balance, exposure, etc.

My kodak C743 for $139.99 @ Wally World works great. Check the pic below and the sunset background. Maybe a bit of photoshop :)

I have the Nikon coolpix 4600. Wasn't that high. Been a great camera.
