Good upper body workout - Buffing out Bruno's RV

Last week we washed and pressure washed Bruno's RV, this week we're detailing it. Jason and Nick are tackling the 6 aluminum wheels while I tackle the paint. After wheels and tires, Nick's going to work on the interior...

I'm taking pictures as we work around the RV and posting to my Facebook page if you want to take a look.

Now that I've started this thread I'll try to update it with Tapatalk

:)

Must be nice having a warehouse big enough to work on that thing inside without the sun beating down on you the entire time!

Though from the looks of it, you've just barely got enough clearance for the roof!

Hey Mike, it's definitley a better work out than those "shake weights" you've been using ;)

Good thing you got help. Gonna be a lot if work. Still more fun of an upper body workout then filling in a pool! Lol! Good luck!

Some people are gonna have no clue what I am talking about.

Great job on a huge surface. The pics on FB show a nice, shiny RV.

But what about before and afters on the interior? And what product and technique was used on the wheels.

I love seeing these unusual vehicle results.

Mike since your in shape, wanna come help me out? Im running so far behind, booked out over a month, rv's, travel trailers, boats, I'm dieing, moved to a little town with like 2k people and I can't keep up with word of mouth advertising, I would pay you with home made margaritas!

Here's a couple of before shots I took last week before we started washing it...

These were probably done at the factory, just a guess but I also so pigtails in the paint... that's usually a sign of machine sanding and then of course you would compound with a wool pad on a rotary buffer to remove the sanding marks.

Max just pulled this baby out into the front of Autogeek and here's a couple of pictures I just took...

Wow. Those are not buffer trails, they are buffer interstates!

Big fan here Bruno. Best of luck in 2011 :righton:

Goodness gracious. Why isn't Dwayne out helping you guys with that beast :bolt:

Thanks for the well wishes, its not going to be easy, but were gonna do everything possible to take back the #1 this season.

Mike, I'm stoked to see the bus next weekend at Detail Fest, Thanks again for all the hard work, see ya there!!

 that's an RV? What next, a bus?

Come to think of it, there are probably a few school buses in the area that could use the gentle kiss of a wool pad attached to a rotary with a few dots of M105. :xyxthumbs:

That is a massive piece of buffing surface! I did one last year outside in the sun and I swore if I ever did it again I would charge twice as much. Oh and I would need a scaffold instead of a step ladder ... up, down, up, down, up, ...

Well that new red vinyl wrap ought to be good for at least half a second off your ET.... so I'd say you're right on track! :righton:

Someone PM'd me and asked what we used on the RV last weekend...

Due to the size, if possible it's fastest to do a one-step procedure to the paint, that would be using a Cleaner/Wax or what some also call an AIO which stands for All-In-One (product), these are the same types of product with just different terms to describe them.

Another option would be to do a multiple-step approach using dedicated products for each task, that would be

  1. Dedicated Swirl Remover
  2. Dedicated Finishing Polish
  3. Dedicated Finishing Wax or Paint Sealant
The above process would be the best approach for a black or dark colored RV especially if it's a custom paint job or the RV is used for promotions.

Due to time restrictions, we opted for the one-step approach and after doing some testing we found the 5.5" Tangerine Hydro-Tech Pads with XMT 360 did a great job of restoring clarity and shine to the clearcoat and removed and/or masked the rotary buffers swirls enough to create a very nice looking finish. For power we used Griot's Garage 6" ROP DA Polishers.

Griot's Garage DA Polisher
XMT 360 - 16 ounce
XMT 360 - 32 ounce (For large projects)
5.5" Tangerine Hydro-Tech Pads
Pad Conditioner Brush
Autogeek Squeeze Bottles (To pour off from 32 ounce bottles)

Of course a little music helps whenever you're working on any project...
