So my grandma recently took a trip from West Palm Beach Fl to St.Cloud Fl. Its a three hour drive and she likes to take a scenic route through some less used older highways. A large stretch of the trip is through some undeveloped, wooded area. Here in Florida we have a nasty little pest called the Lovebug. We aint talkin Herbie here. Lovebugs are a science experiment gone wrong from a state university. Originaly they were genetically engineered to be preditors of mesquitos. Some one spiked the punch and now these bugs fly around attached at the rear (loving one and other all day) and they are slow, clumbsy ,fast spreading bugs that plaster the front of your car. And the worst part is they have acidic blood that is strong enough to eat through your clearcoat in no time at all.
Grandma can no longer wash her own car as she is in her 80s. She took the car to a local hand carwash and asked them to remove the bugs. I swear they used sandpaper to clean the bugs. Her finish was so destroyed ,i wanted to go on a rampage.
Heres some pictures of the damage...

As you can see from the pics they were fairly more than aggressive with a harsh pad of some kind.:bash:

So i set to work correcting this gross display of careless cleaning.
First a good wash and clay with pinnacle ultra poly clay and lube.

Next ill do a test spot.

Priming with some Meguiars 105

Ready to polish!

Doing the test spot.....finished with Wolfgang finishing glaze.

Test spot results

As you can see here the scratches are gone but the lovebug splatters are all the way through the clear and into the actual paint.

Heres some pics of other corrections i made since i was already polishing

After

After... as you can see theres some chips that i cant fix

So i hope youve all learned a valuable lesson about not taking your car to these hack carwashes. They will use a ninja sword to clean your paint!!!!! Seriously pay a few extra bucks and have one of the fine detailers from this forum take good care of your car!

Lol ninja sword..

Great job, gmom's should be happy with the results.

Nice save :props:

You're right about hacks out there seemingly using Ninja swords too

Great fix! I'd like to know what the heck they used to scrub the bugs off?!

BTW, love bugs aren't some experiment gone wrong that escaped. They are a native species of South America and made their way up into the southern United States. :)

Man....what a good grandson you are. I know it made your Grandma's day

As someone who has personal experience with those nasty little bugs, kudos.

I see so many cars around here with ruined paint due to owners not removing those bugs in a timely fashion..........their guts are like "Alien" blood.

lol...Your right it is like alien blood. Im just glad these bugs are tiny...If they were any bigger wed be in some real trouble.

heres a pic of the thick coating of bugs you see here in Florida and a pic of the culprit themselves

Too bad the bugs can't get divorced so they wouldn't cause such a nightmare

Nice save man!!! They hire people at car washes that have absolutely no knowledge about what they are doing. They get no instruction what so ever, and I've seen a random employee from a local car wash using a makita rotary buffer with a wool pad on brand new paint!!!!!! I asked him what he was doing, and he spoke no English.....never never never.

It really is sad and scary to see these places in business. So many people are so oblivious. You just want to shake them.

What does speaking English have anything to do with detailing a car?

If someone does not speak English, and they do not know what they are doing, you cannot instruct them unless you speak their language. The poster clearly did not speak this person's language, so they could not educate them on what they were doing wrong. That is the point being made. Nice try though.

whoa guys !!!The only races i want to talk about on my thread are the kind with shiney cars going around in circles...take that crap outside

Thanks for the rebound. Appreciated!
