Griot's 3" polisher questions

So I received my polisher yesterday. I immediately opened the box, inspected everything and the first thing I noticed is that there are no instructions for putting the backing plate on. Add to this that there is a little baggy with two small parts that have springs on them. The backing plate has a plastic/cardboard spacer on the threaded spindle.

There is a booklet included but it is a general informational pamphlet.

My questions are:

1. What are the small parts with the springs attached?
2. Do you leave the plastic/cardboard washer on or do you remove it when installing the backing plate
3. How tight is tight enough when attaching the backing plate but also not too tight where you damage the machine or backing plate?

They are spare parts
I left my washer in and has been there for over a year and know problems
Just tighten till it stops don't force it.

So I guess I put it together correctly. Thanks for the info. Griot's should have better documentation.

The spare parts with springs are extra brushes.
