Hey guys

Have a quick question, Just got my HD. 3'' Griot's DA in and been using it on speed 4.5 with the orange polishing pad using D300 and not even applying any pressure at all and all I'm doing is just edging and this thing is getting a little hot with no more then a few minutes use at a time.

Got my thermometer gun out and after edging down the drivers side bed I noticed it is just to hot, so I checked it and it read 120 degree's at the cooling fins. Has anyone else run into this or ?

Yes, they do run on the warm side. Mine's been great for the last couple of years. If it blows up, remember the lifetime warranty! If you do a lot of 3" work, might want to get a 3" plate for a larger DA with a stronger motor. :buffing:

It is a great little machine. If the setting at 4.5 doesn't work, bump it all the way to 6. However, if you put a stripe on the backing plate you can see if the backing plate is moving accordingly. It took me a little adjustment on this one as it is small. But once I did it was fine. Yes it does run hot.

It does tend to get a tad warm. I've used it for hours on end. Amazing machine.

Far from being an amazing machine. Now the Rupes Mini would be considered an amazing 3" random orbital machine.

Appreciate the reply's guys, First time using something other then a G100, 7424xp, 9227 Makita So thanks, Do like this little DA. Plan on getting a flex when money allows it but right now my 7424xp, 3'' Griot's and my new unused Harbor freight DA will help get me by. You can't have enough machines. Thanks again guys:props:

since this about 3 in polishers, i hope this is not a high-jack,, last week at HF i saw a pneumatic 2 inch ORBITAL sander. I am going to guess its an air hog,,, but at 26 bucks, might be worth the risk.

And then we have the 3in,, both have Velcro backing plates and hmm would the 3in fit n the one thats orbital

Agreed. The GG machine leaves a lot to be desired. Very low on power compared to the Rupes Mini

:iagree:Its good for edging. I have used it a lot in the past couple weeks on our cars and works great for me...

Check out this review I did of the 2" machine:

2" pneumatic DA review

I screwed up and accidentally deleted the original video, but scroll down and you'll see where I posted a new link.

Using a mf pad and a good compound/aggressive polish I've had NO issues with the GG3". Used it all week on my buddy's RX7 on the smallish areas w/o a problem, I like it and will continue to like it.

I guess those whom are pros where "time is money" might prefer the Rupes or those with deeper pockets but I just work the polish in and in and when done the paint looks great.

:iagree: Love the little beast for small scratched areas. Why bring out the big guns when you can get it done faster with the GG 3". Additionally, the GG 3" is great for laying a coat of quality wax.

So far I agree with you Klasse Act I like getting this neat little 3'' GG DA out with my 7424 on my detail table and reaching for it for the small area's and right now edging with it. I can overlook the heat as long as it will last, seams to be a great little machine!

Youre comparing a Bentley to a Camry.

As others have stated, I get amazing results with my GG 3" using good pads and compound/polishes. Is the Rupes better? Probably, indont have any experience with it. Your machine choice would depend on many variables honestly.

:iagree:

The Rupes is around $300 and the GG 3" $99. That is a real deal breaker for me. Additionally, there are so many backing plate adapters for the PC that you can get a 3" backing plate and use that instead....

I agree with you the Rupes is probably a SUPERIOR DA. But to fix little scratches or laying down wax...the GG 3" is sufficient enough and gets the job accomplished with flying colors.

Actally the comparison would be more like a Camry to an Audi A6, LOL, 3x's the price, give or take.

Maybe its just me but when using either of my GG machines I just work and work the product in till it disappears and get the results. Now maybe the product disappears quicker with the Rupes, fine and like I said before, your doing this for a living then you need the faster machine or if you've got the extra 2 Franklins burning a hole in your pocket, go for it!

Don't know about the Rupes warranty but Griot's is lifetime!

It's like a Honda Fit compared to a loaded-up Acura TL SH-AWD.

Both will get the job done (or get you to work), but one of them just does it in a much nicer manner.

How about cutting down a tree with a hand saw compared to a chain saw.
