So my g9 just went out during a detail with 3 panels left.

I called Griots and they said that they're sending a new electric cord.

I tried making sure it would snap in place.
Anybody else have this issue?

Being a new machine and a new manufacturer a few defects aren't too surprising. Thankfully Griot's has the best customer service in the business and will take care of you, now and whenever you need it in the future. No other brand will offer the same warranty on their polishers.

How frustrating to have this happen before completing your work, but you are in good hands with GG - they will make it right. I too have a new G9 and just finished doing my 35' 5th wheel with no issues, worked flawlessly.

Hmmm. My g9 failed during its first real use. Would shut off. I would pull the trigger a couple of times and it might be fine till I moved to the next area. No rhyme nor reason. Thought maybe it was the cord but couldn’t make it fail. No start became more frequent till it would only run for a second at anytime. GG tech had me check brushes for tightness. They were okay so they said send it back. Hope I’m not without it for a couple of weeks if it ends up being the cord.
On another note, because I’m obsessive I bought a G15 and a shinemaster m21 to work with while I wait.

I hope this isn't a constant issue. I just asked Santa Claus for one.

It's good practice to re seat the brushes to be sure that's not the issue. I've had one GG polisher stop working (G21) and I removed the brushes and put them back in, and 2 years later still working perfectly.

Exactly.

i just received mine last week and from speed 3 to 6 the motor makes a very unpleasant high-piutched squealing sound. I think I will give them a call.

I did try reseating the brushes without effect. I will say the staff at Griots have been very responsive.

This has merit and a good idea, although I have to admit I did not do it with mine as I was just too dang excited to try it out. As mentioned earlier, I just completed doing our 35" 5th wheel - a lot of use over a few days and working perfectly.

It's only something to do if the polisher stops working all of a sudden. It's something a lot of us found out many years ago and solves most of the issues instead of shipping it back under warranty.

BTW be glad you have that lifetime warranty so you never need to worry about anything.

Am I the only one wondering how a new electric cord is going to fix the machine?

Does your cord not stay in right now? I was confused by your post

Initially mine was difficult getting it to snap into place. It eventually worked itself in. When it started to fail, it seemed to happen as I looped the cord over my should and placed the pad against the car. This put some upward tension on the cord so I thought it must be the cord. However I could get it going and flex the connection in any direction and it wouldn’t stop. Eventually it was hit or miss if it was going to start or stop regardless of tension on the cord. The removable cord is cool and smart for storage but....

It is possible they got a batch of bad cords. This happens very frequently in all ranges of manufacturing and many kinds of parts.

Either way, Griot's will make it right.

I wonder if they'll do a recall? Either way seems like a small issue when your talking about a LIFETIME warranty

On Jimbo`s detailing video / podcast he interviewed Nick from Grits an @ 1:35 mark he said Griots is working on a second version with upgrades on fan and gears.
FYI this is not Griots bashing customer service is great .
