This was an ongoing review that I never posted here, so this post will be many condensed into one. I won these products in a giveaway on AG's sister forum.

First up, the bottles:

You also get applicator pads and a sticker. Please note that it appears that you get about 20 applicators, but in fact there are only 4 or 5 I believe. They are thick, do NOT try to pull them apart otherwise they will lint.

The car was already sealed with Adam's Quick Sealant, but that was easily removed by Adam's APC as well as IPA. Next would be to clay and polish your glass (preferably with G4) but I did not do this as it was thoroughly cleaned about a week ago, so today was just a good cleaning and surface prep.

I then made sure everything was streak free using an Adam's Glass towel.

GTechniq recommends 3 layers of G1 on the windshield and 1 layer everywhere else. I only did the windshield and used 3 coats.

Here it is immediately after application:

Here it is 15 minutes after application and ready to be removed:

To remove, take a clean applicator and apply G2 residue remover. Now, here's the tricky part, once you put G2 to the windshield, you must immediately remove it otherwise G1 residue will still be left behind. To do this, I put a G2 covered applicator in my left hand, a short loop microfiber in my right hand, and then proceeded down the windshield so that my microfiber immediately followed the G2 applicator.

It's a bit tedious, but not that difficult. Here is the clean and coated windshield:

As far as its performance and durability, I will have to report back after it rains or I wash the car. I plan to update this thread until the coating is gone.

As with all coatings, work in a well ventilated area and wear PPE. Also, the bottles could be improved with some sort of dripping dispenser like CQuartz has instead of just an open top. I used 7-8 mL of each bottle, so 15 mL should be just enough for one car.

It finally rained, so time for an update.

After sitting through an overnight rain, here is what the windshield looked like in the morning.

For comparison, here is what the beads looked like on CQuartz:
IMAG3154_zpsbebubwbw.jpg

When I drove the car, 34 MPH seemed to be the magic speed that made the beads fly up and off of the windshield and I must say, at a very rapid pace.

Here it is after a much heavier rain:
IMAG3155_zpsgwdcaa2o.jpg

The product beads great, but then comes it partial downfall. However, all sealants and coatings have this issue that I have tested.

It provides very little help for the water spray kicked up by the other cars on the road. There is no movement of the water spray on the windshield until about 50 MPH and even then, the droplets are so small, they don't clear the windshield like the larger beads do.

In summary, G1 performs better than others for large beads as pictured above, but only performs similarly for light rain that causes small beads and water spray kicked up by other cars.

What would make G1 impressive though is if its durability claims hold true, and if so, I'll be updating this thread for a while.

3 week update:
I am a bit lost for words because it's performing really well and badly at the same time. The product still beads fantastically making it easy to see in the rain, but even at 55 MPH, the rain beads had just started to move up the windshield at a very slow rate, which is over 20 MPH higher than the previous bench mark for water movement.

It rained again today and I have to say I was pretty disappointed. The performance was even worse. The coating is still there, but it's not effective enough to be useful on the windshield. It would probably be great on the side windows, but the windshield not really. It performed great a few days after application, but now I think I'll be removing it in favor of another product.

* A Gtechniq representative did mention "Also, try to use a clean terry cloth or lint free paper towels when removing the residue with G2. Microfibers may pull too much of the product back off the windows." However, I would like to note that the directions do not indicate what type of towel is recommend. Perhaps, product was pulled off of the windshield, but there is really no way to tell. However, the performance was great initially, so I would think that the coating did indeed bond and did not get pulled off.

Interesting advice they gave you since terry cloth is considered more aggressive/rough than MF

Some also consider cotton towels to be MORE absorbent than MF

I have G1 on my windshield now

I found the application process to be more work than it should. The buffing step particularly

I am also experiencing jumpy wipers

I have found that if you use an IPA it makes removal of the coating much easier. My first one I did I ran out of the G2 and IPA worked just fine for me with out any negative effects.

I think you will find with any window coating you will get wiper chatter as I like to call it. I am running PBL surface and window coating right now on my own car and they both make my wipers chatter.

My wipers are smooth with G1. However, I think I'll be going back to Adam's Quick Sealant. It lasts a long time, is stupid easy to apply, and causes no wiper chatter.

May ask, as a newb: Adam's Quick sealant.. Cost? "New" effect longevity? Does AQS get cloudy as it starts to break down? Thanks!

Not trying to derail, just interested in window sealants.

It was designed for paint, but because it is 100% optically clear, it works on all exterior surfaces. It is $20 a can, and can easily easily cover at least 5 cars. Durability is a solid 3 months but typically lasts longer; some have posted they have gotten nearly a year. It will never get cloudy.

Sorry to hear your G1 experience wasn't optimal.

I have had G1 on my window for about 1 year, and it still works beautifully.

Are you sure all your previous sealant was removed? This might be an explanation for your dwindling performance.

The car was brand new and prepped for coatings. It had Adam's Quick Sealant for maybe 2 weeks which was designed to be removed by their APC which I did. I then did several full strength IPA wipe downs. No doubt G1 is still on there, it's just not effective enough for me to the point where I can reduce or eliminate windshield wiper use.

That's some attractive info. Thank you sir!

G2 is IPA

Aquapel..no chatter

Rain-X.....no chatter

Ceriglass and Rayon pads followed by Eraser were used for prep

The performance is not dwindling, the chatter has been present from day one. It beads well during washes, but during light rain the water does not fly off the windshield

I'm confused. Are you talking about your prep or the OP's prep? I was referring to the OP.

I have a little bit of chatter as well, but this seems to have presented itself several months after application of G1. I started using DG Rain Repel about 1 month ago, and the chatter is all but gone.

...

G2 is nothing more than IPA.

I think you should have used G4 for prep (or some other glass polish).

getting a new windshield soon, and took advantage of the sale, and added the G1/G2 kit to my order. hopefully it works well! I've got Rain-X, Nanoskin Rain, DG501, and various sealants on hand if it doesn't work, but I hope it wasn't a waste of money

I don't think G1/G2 are worth it.

Last month I used it on 2 windshields. One was brand new, the other I prepped with a PC7424 using Nanoskin's Autoscrub pad and Ceriglass with Carpro's Rayon glass polishing pad. G1/G2 is 100 times harder to apply (in the case of the prepped windshield, which is probably going to be most users method) and it costs 100 times more than RainX. The results are similar to RainX except it lasts maybe twice as long.

Come get my left over G1/G2 if you want.

It has been several years since I last used Rain X and perhaps the formula has changed but it only ever lasted about three weeks for me. I get about nine months from GTechniq G1. I do agree that G1 is expensive and fussy to apply. IMO there are better windshield treatments available than either Rain X or GTechniq but most are relatively expensive. For people that don't want to spend much money I recommend Aquapel

As an update, it is definitely still on my windshield, but other repellents repel at a lower speed than what G1 requires.

I posted somewhere my review on this "thing". I had .25 of the bottle left I used it for home windows and mirrors. Didn't work as expected for a car.
So, I got FlyBy30 for darn cheap (AG Christmas Sale). I applied on my brand new car, I'm not looking back at G1!
