Is it true that you must use C1 to achieve any scratch resistance?

The other exterior coatings (C1.5 and Exo) do not alone offer scratch reistance. Thanks.

I contacted Rob at Gtechniq and he emailed that EXO provides some scratch resistance, while C1 gives the most and C1.5 none.

Yup! C1.5 is not a coating, more like a spray sealant so scratch resistance is out!

Personally for a winning combo, I'd go with opti-coat 2.0 topped with Gtechniq Exo!

Not sure about EXO over OptiCoat...I'd go C1/EXO or CQ/EXO to get good scratch resistance, or even EXO x 2. EXO is compatible with other quartz based products.

c1 has scratch resistance. exo has some but not as much and c1.5 none at all.

but for us probably the biggest factor for prevention of swirl build up is dirt repellency. if a surface requires less frequent washing and if when you do come to wash it you have to use less passes to clean the surface this means you are less likely to introduce any swirls into your finish.

Are they the same thing I mean the same purpose C1 then EXO, I ask it , if I knew I would t LOL

Would you guys put on C1 after EXO !
never c1 after exo. exo after c1 yes and advisable if your vehicle's paint is particularly prone to wash marring as c1 has superior marr resistence to exo but is fully compatible with exo.

Exactly.

Maintaining a swirl-free finish is all about doing everything you can to prevent swirls in the first place like not scrubbing your car's finish while washing it.

Having a repellent coating is a benefit because there is less chance for dirt on the surface to inflict swirls and scratches when washing.

I know everyone wants an invisible force field over their car's paint to protect it from swirls and scratches but even after using a quality coatings from Gtechniq or any other company you're still going to want to do everything within your control to reduce the potential for marring, swirls and scratches. This includes washing carefully.

... and therein lies one of the truly great benefits of new coatings. The other is that the coatting provides a sacrificial barrier to prevent scratching clear!
