Hand applying Dodo Juice Orange Crush Soft Wax with PJ from Dodo Juice!

We had a real special treat here at Autogeek because PJ, one of the owners and founders of Dodo Juice paid us a visit and gave us a hand with one of our recent project cars.

After all the polishing work was done it was time to add a layer of protection and lock in the shine and for this we chose Dodo Juice Orange Crush Soft Wax for warm colors. As you can see the paint on this 1957 is more than a little warm it's down right hot!

I had planned on machine applying the wax to the paint but PJ shared with everyone some tips and techniques for hand applying this pre-softened Carnauba Wax so we listened up and followed his instruction.

All Dodo Juice Waxes come with the lid sealed onto the jar with a strip of adhesive paper to ensure it's never been opened before it arrives to you. So the first thing to do is to break the seal which PJ is about to do...

After breaking the seal and removing the lid, he then rubs his clean fingers over the top of the wax softening it even more than it already is...

Note: It's vitally important that you wash your hands very well before applying any type of wax to your car's paint.

With wax in hand, he's ready to start applying the wax to the paint...

PJ shows us his technique of working the wax over the paint with a gentle touch using only the bare skin of his hands and fingers...

As he applies the wax he works around the car... in a few seconds the rest of the team is going to join him and with 4 to 5 people hand waxing the paint it's only going to take minutes even to cover a car as large as this!

After all the paint was covered with a thin coat we carefully removed the wax using clean, soft microfiber towels. Here's some beauty shots showcasing this premium quality finishing wax.

This is too cool. I just applied a coat of orange crush last weekend using the same hand method. Orange crush is a bit "gritty" which is best applied with your hands. It's a fantastic wax. It reminds me of Zymol carbon wax which also is best applied with hands. There's something about applying wax that way that makes the whole effort just thàt more satisfying.

nice! I hope you guys have a car planned for next weekend! I will be able to make the trip!

I applied orange crush with bare hands on my sky and while I loved the process I found that it actually went on too thick that way. NOW, obviously if PJ is doing it then it is in the technique and I must need some more practice. I switched to a foam applicator and was able to apply it much thinner. I applied vintage only by hand which is the only way to go with that one with no problem since then so maybe it's time I get my orange crush out again and give it another shot by hand.

I prefer to use the Supernatural Finger Mitts, but that's just me.

Using bare-hands is but one of DoDo's recommended application methods for this particular wax.

From:
Dodo Juice Orange Crush Soft Wax, carnauba car wax, dodojuice waxes, wax for warm colors, wax for red cars, orange car wax

Application:
As with any car wax, we’ve found that the best results are obtained on a clean, smooth paint finish....Then apply a layer of Dodo Juice Orange Crush Soft Wax using a soft foam applicator or with your bare hands.

And...
Use a soft foam or microfiber applicator, or your
bare hands, to apply Dodo Juice Orange Crush Soft Wax.

I imagine this "by bare-hand" application method is the way PJ preferred while waxing this '57.

As Mr. Phillips explained earlier: "I had planned on machine applying the wax to the paint but PJ shared with everyone some tips and techniques for hand applying this pre-softened Carnauba Wax so we listened up and followed his instruction."

All I can say is, that when I have guests over at my place, I try to be polite, also.

:)

I am fascinated with the hand application method, but at the same time I cannot bring myself to try it yet. I don't know, something about rubbing my hands all over my cars paint just seems wrong.

If rubbing them is wrong I don't want to be right. :)

ok here is the low down.... i prefer to apply waxes with my fingers. there is just something about feeling the glassy smooth finish of the paint when the true work (prep) has been done. for me it is like getting a present on the 24th december.

What is the benefit of using your fingers instead of an applicator?

the benefits to me come from the tactile feeling of the paint after the prep. along with getting a stronger scent of the product. as i said above, this is a preference.

I would think less would be used

by applying wax by finger you will undoubtedly use a little more wax than if applied by foam, BUT - with the right amount of time and the knowledge to spread the wax as much as possible, the difference can be negligable.

it is important to remember when dealing with a paste wax that you can't apply it so thinly that it will cure transparent. there will always be an excess that hazes and needs to be buffed off. because of this it is just a question of applying the wax as thinly as humanly possible, allowing to cure and then buff off the excess.

Applying by hands, to me, is more about the quality of time spent with the car and the overall detail. I fell much more satisfied when I apply Dodo by hand vs. Mother's Reflections, FX or Optimum Spray Wax. At the end of the day I benefit. Another side benefit.... it is a great workout for the hands and my grip strength has improved immensely this year. :-)

I totally agree with you but when I started doing it with my Zymol waxes I have, it actually works out pretty well. Try it, you'll see its pretty nice.

I have actually become very fond of the bare hand application method. Takes a little practice to lay a thin coat down but after that, it is very rewarding.

Wow that Orange Crush looks amazing on that paint, great job that everyone did on that car!
And thank you PJ for hanging out and showing these boys the Dodo way!
