I came to the conclusion this weekend that my car's clear coat is harder than steel. Literally. To get any correction on my S4 a couple months ago I had to pick up some foamed wool pads combined with M105. The RIDS just barely came out with that after a half dozen passes.

So last week I picked up a used exhaust system at a steal of a price. Since it looked its age (15 years old) but was stainless steel, I decided to sand down the pipes and polish them out with the same wool/M105 combo. It easily cleaned up like this with just a couple passes...

Mind you, the M105 didn't remove the corrosion. But it took out the sanding marks with no problem at all.

Wow! I might take my mufflers off and do that. Incredible job

stainless steel is about as soft as steel gets (its really soft and more prone to scratching than almost anything besides aluminum...).... but the polish job looks amazing!

Just for the record, I also tried the wool pads with FG400 but the results weren't as good or fast. After tearing up one wool pad I switched over to a ThinPro gray (heavy cut) pad with M105 and got nearly as good results as with the wool.

Wow amazing difference. I also have an S4 and haven't tackled a proper correction with it but the previous owner completely trashed it at the dealer. It was an Audi employee owned car he leased.

I think you were just looking for a reason to show off your pipes....LOL

Maybe a little. :) But mostly I wanted to show that stainless steel can be polished fairly easily. I was looking for examples online and didn't find much other than people polishing by hand with Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish. I also had that on hand and it worked ok, but the M105 was as good and a whole lot faster with my GG6.
